17 boats went to Portishead, including our first motor cruiser. Portishead Cruising Club members were fantastic. They picked 38 of us up from the marina, ferried us all to the club, fed us all for free with a lovely choice of hot food including curry, beef bourgignon, and a couple of other dishes, a selection of gorgeous desserts. Concerned that there would not be enough beer we were reassured that no, there was plenty - 2 barrels of Doombar. They haven't got two barrels any more! In fact they have none left. We were entertained by Chris Reid on his accordion, and at the end of the evening the lovely members of PCC ferried us all back to the marina. Best of all, the Commodore presented us (CYC) with a piece of Bristol Blue glass for our Blue Book Challenge trophy. Our thanks to all at PCC for a great night out.

I lied in my previous post. There were actually 18 boats from CYC in Portishead. I believe that they all ended up motoring most of the way on the Saturday, it was a beautiful day for sun and warmth, but not for wind! Vince and I had gone over on Friday morning, we had a fabulous sail for the first hour or so, but then the wind died and we just came up on the tide with the genoa up. On Saturday we did the coastal path walk to Clevedon, making the mistake of starting at the George, which must have added at least a mile and a half to the journey. However we were able to see some of the flotilla coming over, and took our hand held radio with us so we were able to communicate with the fleet. We managed to get back to Portsihead for the first arrivals. [/URL]

We then watched some more of the fleet arrive - was it a flotilla, fleet or armada? When everyone had finally arrived and got berthed up (it took about 3 locks to get them all in) the party seemed to have got started on Moonstruck. Have patio doors, will party it seems! Later we were all collected from the Marina and taken to the club where we had a fabulous time, food raffle, lots to drink, and a lift home! What more can you want? Here we all are, the lucky raffle winners. What a rowdy bunch you all are! Glad you all had a good time. Sorry I didn't make it. Decided to chop my finger off and spend a few days in hospital. The lovely chaps and ladies at the Heath in Cardiff did a wonderful job of sewing it back on. I have the pins out in a month.
I must admit that I can't wait for the finger/hand related jokes when I get down the club next :-)

Our club will be getting a well deserved reputation as the friendliest club in the channel. An absolute cracker of a weekend with everyone thoroughly enjoying the change in the weather we have all been waiting for. Well done fellow members. Russell

Sounds like a great trip and so good to see so many CYC boats together.

That is quite incredible. I would say that on that alone, Portishead have put a stake in the mud to declare that they are the friendliest club in the Bristol Channel.

Matt, Glad to hear you are on the mend. The Portishead spokesman did say they were going to put on a Finger buffet - until they heard of your accident - and thought it would be in bad taste. ;D His joke not mine

Spidercrab's further comment was in reply to my earlier post when I had said that I totally agree that we have a serious challenger to our self professed status of being the friendliest club in the Bristol Channel. I questioned whether our members would put ourselves out as much as the PCC guys, but then went on to say that our club has a different dynamic.
