Swansea & Oxwich for Easter, 22-24th April. Spend Easter sailing with other club members, leaving Friday to sail to Swansea. Overnight in Swansea Marina, perhaps visiting Swansea Yacht and Sub Aqua Club, to gain maximum Blue Book Points! Then on the Saturday, sail out to Three Cliffs Bay, for an afternoon on one of the most celebrated beaches in Wales. There'll be plenty of people with dinghies if you need help getting ashore. Then sail the short distance to the Oxwich Bay anchorage for the night. A superb oportunity to put the tip's you learn at the fishing talk into practise in the blue waters of Gower Pennisular, see if you can bag the best supper in the fleet! VHF Ch.77. It is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the skipper to decide whether to enter or continue participating in this event, especially with regard to prevailing and forecast weather conditions. Please also ensure your vessel and it’s equipment is in a sound and seaworthy condition and that you and your crew are suitably experienced, properly prepared and clothed for adverse weather as required.

We'd all better make sure we attend Chrissy Mather's talk on fishing then!

Yeah I think so. I've decided to offer a bonus BB point for the best fish photo posted here from the Easter weekend cruise.

Myself and Julian are going on this event on Katy (just to start the ball rolling on who is coming!).
Julian has promised fish for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper so I've bought some tartar sauce and lemon as an accompaniment :-)

I haven't promised nuffink Matt as I have never fished before in my life!! All I'll do is dunk the hook in the water as per Chris's instructions and see what happens! :-)
If we did get that much fish you wouldn't want to sail back. You'd be over the side swimming back with your newly grown tail and fins!
Just a quick point. Easter is actually from the 22nd - 25th (not 24th). Are you planning to return early Huw?
Julian.

I figured that most people wouldn't want to follow a regimented program for four days, so have left where to go for Sunday Morning in Oxwich open to discussion and individual planning. Also we really need a bit more weather info before commiting firmly to anchoring at Oxwich - though a plan has to start somewhere!

Count Xanadu in on this one. I can't get the 3 days between Easter and the 29th bank holiday off, but am seriously considering the idea of going on to Milford Haven, leaving the boat there and going back to get her the following weekend.

Yeah I think so. I've decided to offer a bonus BB point for the best fish photo posted here from the Easter weekend cruise. As I said above there is an extra Blue Book Challenge point (or maybe 2!) on offer for the best fish supper photo posted on the forum following the weekend. Brian King, our Vice Commodore, and a keen and experienced fisherman has kindly agreed to judge the competition (I intend to enter myself!). The winning photo will be the one which most makes Brian wish he was on board that boat for his supper. So it's not necessarily the biggest fish that will win - it could be the culinary excellence, the party atmosphere, the photographic genius or the sheer effort put in that is captured by the camera to win Brian over. Photos must be posted here on the forum, in the Swansea and Oxwich Bay Thread, by 3rd May. The competition will be judged after this date (at Brian's convenience). This will allow plenty of time for photos to be uploaded after the festivities of the two consecutive bank holiday weekends.

Mary, Tilly belongs to Bright Flyer (Martyn & Sarah) not Camelot (Huw, Angie & the children)! But I think Tilly goes everywhere Martyn & Sarah go!

Oxwich fishing/supper comp..I thoght you may like a couple of suggestions. As you are going to Oxwich early in the year mackerel will be scarce ,even non-existant, so dont rely on them for bait or eating.I suggest you take squid, frozen mackerel, or ragworm with you.Worms kept in newspaper in a fridge or cool place wil last the weekend, £5. worth should be more than enough .All obtainable at local tackle shops.Flatfish should be in the area including rays, turbot, plaice and brill.Dogfish will be about awill gurnard, and pollack, both quite tasty. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. Brian King.

I'm ignoring Huw's comment........
I remember catching Gurnard off the Gower many years back. Odd looking things, but I found them delicious. I've actually seen them on the menu in a fish restaurant in West Wales at £20!!!
Louise has had me digging Ragworm recently down at Dale - not easy work - it's no wonder they cost so much. After an hour, I could hardly stand up straight.

I did use the ragworm for bait when I was fishing, please don't think I just randomly make Martin spend ages digging for worms for no good reason!

I have just been looking at the long term weather and, at present, the winds are from the east. It may be an idea to look at an alternative to Oxwich. As I have said before things may change by the weekend. Allan

I was thinking we could stay at Three Cliffs Bay if it's from the East. Worst case, if it veers much more to the south we could be looking at returning to the marina. But, I think we need to decide on the day. At least Swansea marina is nearby if anyone doesn't feel comfortable with the wind direction.
That said the forecast winds are very light, and plenty of sunshine is forecast for the daytime, so the local conditions may well differ from the wide area forecast, with potential for a night time light land breeze blowing off the shore regardless of prevailing wind, which would be ideal.
