After a bit of persuasion from Sheila last Thursday, subject to weather etc... hope to join you with mobo "Star" Doubtful Mrs Habso can make it - she's busy taking work far too seriously. She's given me leave of absence... but I just know it's gonna cost me

As we're now only a week away it's probably worth talking about departure times. As I see it there are four options:- - Lock out Friday evening about 1600 - 1700 and benefit from the extra daylight time, with the clocks having gone forward. And also gain a full day on Saturday in Portishead.
- Leave very early on the Saturday morning, I guess some time around 0300 - 0530, to gain a full day in Portishead.
- Leave some time Saturday morning to enjoy a sail in the Channel, perhaps around the islands, before heading to Portishead once the tide turns in the afternoon.
- Leave on the Saturday afternoon at around 1500 and make probably the quickest passage time to Portishead.
Avonmouth's tides for the weekend. Times in BST!Friday 1st April 0109 3.3m 0658 10.8m 1331 2.8m 1918 11.1m Saturday 2nd April 0148 2.6m 0733 11.6m 1407 2.2m 1950 11.8m Sunday 3rd April 0222 2.1m 0805 12.2m 1440 1.8m 2021 12.3m At the moment I think I'm leaning towards the Friday evening departure - What are your plans?

We will leave on the Saturday lunchtime tide. Will see who is around Saturday morning and lock out at same time as the others. Can't do Friday unfortunately.

I would like to join this outing, what time are you meeting? Andy High Spirits As in my post just above yours I think there are four options. I suspect that most people will be locking out at 15:00-15:30 ish on Saturday afternoon though. I've pretty much decided to go on the Friday evening locking out at 17:00.

Team Cassandra are coming. 3 of us on board (probably) We'll probably leave Cardiff Saturday lunchtimeish.
Has anybody investigated the possibility of anchoring at Pill? Not been before, so don't know the options. (I think other crew members may opt for the marina though)

Not been before, so don't know the options. (I think other crew members may opt for the marina though) Peter You can anchor in the river Peter. Last year Tony "Barebones" Davies and a couple of other yachts anchored there. You then just have to get ashore. If you go in the Pill, obviously you will be in the mud at sometime. We had considered anchoring at one point but decided on the comfort of the marina. there was a couple from PCC in the club on Saturday, Will & Fee (boat Isis Tres). Great efforts have been gone to for our visit, with members rallying around to provide transport for us all from the Marina, and apparently everyone is looking forward to our visit. Vince and I just hope that he can fix our engine before Saturday, else we might not make it! Alana finished the Early Bird series of races on Sunday, thanks to a tow out of and back in to the Bay by Phil & Moontide. A successful race too, Alana came 3rd. Overall congratulations to Moontide and Bright Flyer for coming 3rd & 2nd overall in the series.

Latest up date from PCC
They will be laying on transport from about 1900 and opening the bar at 1930.
Will confirm numbers to them during thursday evening at the club to help with the transport.
Unfortunately my doctor has stopped me sailing at present, but hope to be cleared by friday, failing that I intend driving across sat evening

Chausey will now be heading up on Saturday. Low tide is about 13-20hrs. I would like to be out by 10-30hrs to get a decent sail over toward England before heading up the coast. I hope to be at Portishead before HW (20-00hrs). If there is not enough wind for a good sail, I will leave after low water and go up via North Cardiff and E&W So far the weather looks OK but it is a bit early to take too much for granted. Allan

I don't think you'll have a problem with the wind Allan. I just checked and there is a large low pressure system coming over, some web sites saying 30kts (70 gusts) either to hit Friday or Saturday depending on which site you look at. Either way the sea state will be rough I guess.

Either way the sea state will be rough I guess. Matt Matt, As I said, it is a little early to tell but WindGURU is giving 6-8knts with gusts up to 11kts for the times above. www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=6459I've just put my largest genoa on, which is quite lightweight so I'm hoping the light winds will give me a chance to play with it. I'll check the weather later in the week. Can't see the sea state being too bad as there is plenty of south in the winds this week and when the tide turns on Saturday it looks to be westerlies. Unless the forecast picks up for Sunday it could be a motor back. Allan

I am looking at XCWeather and it is forecasting SW 20mph winds, with gusts of 40mph for Thurs and Friday, but better on Saturday, falling to just W 10mph after 10am. Before midday Sunday, only W 2mph. rising to WSW 10mph early afternoon. Looks like I will be motoring back, Neville.

I have my car booked in for service in Cardiff on Friday, so will be about all day. Amazingly organised for me, I booked this ages ago with the idea of killing two birds with one stone. As I'd now be in Cardiff anyway I will be ready to go from the time I pick my car up on Friday afternoon. Just keeping an eye on the weather and waiting to hear when my crew can and/or would like to leave, weather permitting.
Mick has a first time pregnant wife and Karen has her kids to sort out so neither really know until the last minute!!
Julian.

The met office is predicting a cold front going across the country Friday. www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/surface_pressure.html I'm sure the timing and probably the path will change before Saturday but there should be a settled spell behind it. Still looking OK for Chausey to be there. Allan

I have just gone down all of this post and have counted everyone who has expressed an interest. There are 16 boats that have expressed an interest in this outing, plus another 2 that I know have not posted. Got to be a record surely?
