Well I couldn't make it, but I did manage to get some poor quality photos from the pier - hopefully someone will mange some decent shots. There seemed to be a good turnout, I counted 11 boats, and can only assume that they were all heading around Flat Holm. That I recognised from a distant there was Chausey, Alana, Runagane, Katy, Manana, Sunbeam, Moontide and XS; all of whom have secured 2 points towards the Blue Book Challenge - apologies to anyone I missed, let me know and I'll add your points. The RNLI were also busy, towing in a fishing boat. Hope everyone had a great day. Happy New Year!

Huw, it wasn't Sunbeam that took part it was Neville's boat Artful Dodger (formerly Wellytot or something like that). The 11 were, Runagane, Chausey, Bright Flyer, Manana, XS, Moontide, Alana, Lucy Too, Artful Dodger, Alegria & Katy.
Cheers

2 points added to the Blue Book Challenge spreadsheet for all those mentioned above (except Sunbeam!).

Big thanks to Neville for taking me on as last minute crew on Artful Dodger - enjoyed the day very much especially helming a boat the same as mine (essentially). Think it was very sporting of us to let Chausey stay ahead!!

Nice pics, and well done Fred for the video. It takes time to do that, and it's great that people take the time to upload pictures, trip reports and videos for others to look at.
Thanks.
PS, What bottle of spirit were you in, Matt?

Some lovely pictures again. Can't help noticing that the boat you got closest to was the one with 'BAR' written on the sails. Don't know if there's any significance in that or not, Sheila?

Looks like I missed a really good one.
I saw Huw Sunday morning not long after leaving Cardiff Marine under the new foot bridge, engine coughing, spluttering and belching clouds of smoke. Turns out to be the head gasket had gone, between the cylinder and a water passage, allowing a compression leak and letting water into the cylinder (and damaging the head). No wonder it's hard to start and won't run properly. Head now being skimmed and waiting for new gasket. Hopefully be under way again soon.
My thanks to Rob Freemantle of Cardiff Marine, who when I told him that I couldn't really afford to have the boat yard do the work after they had investigated the fuel injector, was so helpful with advice and even put me in touch with the company they would have used for the skimming.
