I was wondering if anyone knows of any local places that provide a full service for small outboard engines as I want one done on mine in the spring. Any information would be appreciated.

A service on a small outboard is very simple to do, you'd be far better off saving a good few £s by doing it yourself; you'd also be in a much better position to sort yourself out if ever it we're to break down if you know your way round it.

What about having a club session on this on a winter's evening? I'm sure there's plenty of knowledge within the club, and plenty of people keen to learn? I would have thought we could do it in the downstairs bar? (put a tarpaulin down etc.)
Anybody want to volunteer to take a leading role?

That's a good idea Peter, I've no idea about outboards so any pointers would be helpful, it would be good for everyone to benefit from a lesson.
I would love to do it myself Huw. Unfortunately I haven't a clue and wouldn't have any ideas on what to check or take apart first.

Peter
Just happen to be logged in under Vince's profile. Sounds like a good idea to me

Perhaps we'll have to arrange an outboard workshop afternoon, I'll look through my diary.

Matt, In the past I have serviced a few outboards. After general checks, wiring, HT lead(s), shear pin, prop, pull cord and cooling telltale. I changed the Plug(s) and the gearbox oil. Some motors have replaceable air filters but most can be cleaned with petrol. The only thing that is not obvious is that the gearbox oil should be squeezed in from the drain plug hole until it comes out of the level hole. After a check over for leaks etc. a quick wipe over with an oily rag and it's ready for use. Allan

It's far better to understand how to fix and service an outboard/inboard that get someone else to do it.
