The Blue Book Challenge Cup.
This is a new Cup for 2011, kindly presented to the club by Sheila Parker-Brown. The challenge is named after the BCYA’s Yachting and Cruising Guide to the Bristol Channel, which is known as ‘The Blue Book’.
The aim is to encourage CYC cruiser members (both sail and motor) to visit other yacht clubs, particularly within the Bristol Channel. Points are awarded for visiting places, and the boat with the highest number of points at the end of the year will win the cup.
Points are awarded as follows:-
Visiting a Yacht/Sailing Club listed in the Blue Book - 2 Points.
Visiting a Marina/Anchorage/Mooring listed in the BB - 1 Point.
Visiting a YC not listed in the BB, anywhere in the World - 1 Point.
Taking part in the CYC Regatta - 5 Bonus Points.
CYC Regatta 1st Place - 3 Additional Bonus Points.
CYC Regatta 2nd Place - 2 Additional Bonus Points.
CYC Regatta 3rd Place - 1 Additional Bonus Point.
Visiting another YC during their Regatta - 2 Bonus Points.
Taking part in a CYC official Club Cruise or Day Sail - 2 Bonus Points.
So a visit, for example, to Lydney YC, during their regatta, as part of a CYC official club cruise would gain you 6 points in total! That’s 2 points for visiting a Bristol Channel YC, plus 2 bonus points for it being during their regatta, plus an additional 2 bonus points for it being as part of a CYC cruise.
The Rules:-
1. You must inform the Sailing Secretary of your visit within a month, or by 28th December – whichever is sooner.
2. The competition runs from January to December (with a cut-off of 28th December to allow for admin)
3. You must provide evidence of your visit to the satisfaction of the Sailing Sec. A photo or log book will usually suffice.
4. You must arrive at the destination by boat!
5. Points are awarded to the boat not to individuals, so you cannot accrue points whilst crewing onboard someone else’s boat.
6. You can only gain points for visiting a destination once in any year, though your visit which gains you the highest number of points will be the one used.
7. Additional bonus points may be awarded for impressive sailing achievements.
8. The Sailing Sec’s decision is final!
9. The cup will be presented to the skipper(s) of the winning boat, in the Club Bar after the New Years sail.
