Hi, my name is Huw and I was asked a while back to arrange some cruises for the club.
To kick off next years cruising schedule we're planning a warm up cruise in company. This is aimed at getting the less experienced sailors in the club out of the bay with some support. The cruise is planned for Saturday 3rd January. The objective is to leave Cardiff Bay and go around Flat Holm Island and return to Cardiff Bay, which is around a 10Nm round trip.
The plan is to lock out of the Barrage at 09:30 to take best advantage of the slack tide.
This is not designed to be a race; purely an experience building exercise and a social event. We will meet under the flag pole outside the club changing rooms at 08:30 for a brief. On return we will meet in the club bar for lunch and drinks.
There is nothing wrong with setting yourself a lesser target if you are concerned with keeping up, perhaps the South Cardiff Cardinal Buoy.
Further cruises will be planned for later in the year, hopefully taking us further afield.
If your interested please pm me your email and I'll send you more details (if James hasn't already).

That's reminded me of something I forgot to mention - If you've a boat and need crew or if like clarinettist you are available to crew on the day this is the place to let people know. Also if any experienced skippers would be willing to go out with newer owners on their boats to show them the ropes I'm sure that would be appreciated.

Great - the more the merrier. I've ordered force 3 winds and clear blue skies for the day! Let's hope it's delivered!

Don't want to push my luck but would rather mirror like sea to warm temp!
Shouldn't be a problem finding you crew - there are a few people looking for a boat to crew on. I think the success of the day will all depend on the weather - but if it's good there will be quite a few boats going out.

Hi, Louise and I won't make the cruise this time. We've just about finished the work on the engine now (Many thanks to Graham, Peter and Dom for doing the work, and Kenny and Ray for putting up with us tied to the visitor's pontoon). We want to get a few hours in cruising back and for in the bay - just to iron out any potential teething problems before venturing out into the channel.
We should be around at the weekend, so have a nice one, and see you in the bar when you get back.

Also have been asked if it's ok for a mobo to tag along, I see no problem with this, so if there are any others feel free to join us.

Thanks Huw. Louise and I have thought about that. It's a possibility. I'd like to run the engine for a few hours as well, though, to make sure we are ready for some sailing the next chance we get. We did think it would be ok to give it a try with Ishtar, but I'd hate to break down with a loose wire or something and get a tow back, so I reckon we'll have a sail or two in the bay, and then get out in a week or so.
If we decide we fancy coming, I'll pm you and arrange to crew.
M.

Ok no worries. Though a tow back only costs a pint ... ask Paschall!

HI Huw, Wimp no 1 here, staring into the freezing fog settled over the Bay this morning I've decided that however appealing the thought of a sail is to blow away the festive 'head' I wont be joining the fleet on 3rd. Might see you later in the clubhouse, David

Well we had a superb sail this morning, with more or less perfect sailing weather - though a tad cold!!! Thanks to Allan and Edwina for having me on board Cobby Girl, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

It did seem a lovely day. Louise and I were disppointed not to be able to make it, although we are very pleased so far with the engine rebuild. We've also now moved from the trot moorings to the pontoon, and are busy sanding and varnishing and finishing off other bits and pieces whilst we are running the engine in. Hope to get back outside the bay soon.

Clarinetist, did you come across Allan and Edwina's dog, by any chance? Great fearsome monster it is. When we were next to them, it kept launching itself off Cobby Girl and terrorising Tigger, who is of a nervous disposition to begin with.

That is Lilly. She looks like butter would not melt! She seems to have a habit of taking on other dogs. I hope Tigger has recovered, she normally only picks on dogs that are much bigger than her. Allan

We've managed to staunch the bleeding, but he still shakes, and has started having nightmares. Apart from that, he's fine........ ;D

Martin - your dog is four times the size of Allan's and yet Allan's dog won? So I'm guessing Tigger is a bit yellow. Now they say dogs take on their owners personality..... ;D

To say Tigger is a coward is an insult to cowards. He's built for running, not fighting. One of those little ducks around the moorings hissed at him the other day and we had to get the pooper scooper out. I'm not quite as scaredy as he, but there is probably something in what you say.
