Hi
Sorry to hear of your issues with CBYC. We at CYC have good relations with your club, especially between the dinghy sections, and as you know (I've seen you out) we collaborate successfully in the racing series. We don't go in for poaching each other's members but, that said, the two clubs are different in some ways (probably due in part to size) so what suits some will not suit others and there's always a small amount of movement of members between the clubs. We have some capacity for expansion and welcome new members - particularly the ones who actually use their boats!
We'd be happy to talk to you about what we're doing, Wednesday evenings are good (we've just had our gates automated and I'm not sure how this will affect visitors - phone the clubhouse 029 2046 3697 if you can't get in).
We're keen on increasing participation in sailing and we're not motivated by profit, although everything we do has to be of benefit to the club and its members. We're starting up a proper training facility now so this could be an opportunity for you - we certainly welcome help from all quarters.
Happy to talk about launching and what you would need for the RS600s. We've made quite a few improvements recently and expect to continue, especially in response to members requirements.
Let me know if you're going to pay us a visit so I can expect you, email dinghy@cardiffyachtclub.org

Hello
just to say that you'd be very welcome over our side. Do come and have a chat. As Jim says, Wednesday evening is a good time from approx. 8pm onwards. (I personally won't be around till after 9.30). Let us know and we'll try and make sure there's someone for you to talk to.
As you may well know, we are in the process of setting up our own training centre, and if you're prepared to offer your time in an SI capacity that would be VERY welcome as that is a bit of a stumbling block for us at the moment. Making sure our launching facilities are up to your standards seems a small price to pay!
If there is one aspect that seperates us from CBYC, it is that we are keen on 'giving everyone a go', and are very aware that not everybody has the money, time or inclination to 'go all the way'. ..and that's just fine. Nice as it might be, we don't really expect to be producing national champions. If that ethos suits you, I'm sure you'll fit in well.
Cheers Peter

Ok, time for me to step in, I think. Can I suggest that any further discussions on this topic are maybe best done over a pint at the club? Lots of people have opinions, but, with the greatest of respect, comments about the relative merits of a nearby club, especially ones that could be taken negatively are perhaps best not aired on a public forum.

Agreed, but please note that NO-ONE from CYC has made any negative comment about another club here. We value our good relations with CBYC.

apologies to anyone who took MY comments to be in any way negative / offensive. They were not intended that way!
as wisely suggested by our administrator, we will continue any further discussion via PM

I wasn't pointing the finger at anyone, apologies if I gave that impression. It's more a case of what might be said, rather than what has been said. In any case, good luck, and good sailing to all.

As suggested ,this matter can be discussed at the club and not on an open forum.
As far as gaining access to the club is concerned, the side gate next to the main gates are now left unlocked during opening times, therefore any visitors can walk to the club after parking on Windsor esplanade. I do not wish the bar staff being bombarded with telephone callers trying to gain access.
If any member is expecting visitors, then it is up to them to be responsible for their entry
