At the moment my boat is electrics free....but supposing I did want to add elctrics to run a few basic items...say Fixed Radio, Nav lights, interior light, depth, and Plotter....what would be the basic items required for the electric system, and a ballpark cost??
Also, anyone recommend an idiots guide to electrics.
Cheers

My previous boat had a basic electrical system. It consisted of Battery, main switch, electrical panel with fuses, Nasa log/depth, interior lights and mast top tricolour navigation light. If just using the boat at weekends, I found a cheap solar panel clipped on to the battery would provide enough power during the week to keep the battery topped up. If going away for a longer trip I would ensure I went into a marina to top up the battery. I had an extetion lead and car battery charger. I imagine the whole system would cost £250-£300 if you fit it yourself. Allan

1. don't have a fridge or an auto pilot if you can help it - huge power guzzlers! 2. make sure all lights are LEDs - they, like instruments, use very little power. Try www.searolf.comCheers Peter
