I finally managed to get out on a ladies sail. Sheila (Alana) came on board Ishtar and we agreed to go out for a gentle sail in the afternoon sunshine. After showing Sheila around the boat to familiarise her with the whereabouts of things and how bits and pieces worked we left the pontoon heading for the locks, with the plan to head out towards the Cardiff north buoy. I wanted to try locking out single handed , which I managed , with Sheila ready to help if I needed it. Quite pleased with that. Vince joined us in the lock on board Alana, and we motored out into the afternoon sunshine. There was not a breath of wind, although we showed willing by at least putting the sails out. Eventually we gave in, and just stayed put, soaking in the sunshine, with Van Morrison for company. Vince and I tried to catch ourselves some supper but didn't get a bite. I'm not convinced that the fish can actually see my feathers in such muddy brown water! Sheila helmed Ishtar back into the lock and found the handling and manoevering very different to Alana but I think the three of us all had a lovely afternoon. I would never expect to have such a beautiful warm afternoon in October but I'm glad I made the effort. We are hoping to go to Portishead on Friday, Louise&Sheila on Alana and Martin&Vince on Ishtar, all welcome, as usual, times to be finalised but probably locking out about midday. Thanks again to Sheila and Vince for a lovely afternoon.
