Hi. I'm thinking of making the trip to Tenby later this month and am looking for any tips, esp as regards making the best use of the tide. My boat is 8m sailing and I usually plan at a pessimistic 4 knots. Also info on current mooring arrangements for visitors would be useful. Cheers, John

Hi John, I am not what you would Call experienced as to give advise, and the Buoys in tenby may well be Seasonal, but I found on a previous trip Anchorage posed no Problems, but here goes. I few weeks ago traveled to Tenby In two legs first Anchorage being Oxwich, Since I was not In a hurry I left on low tide and it was incredibly slow more pessemistic than 4 knots but It can be done in one (you will have to leave on high tide to do that). you will inevitably find, as seems to be the norm that you will have the wind on the nose. there are Visitor moorings in Tenby which are free I spent two Nights on them Noting except for two trawlers all other boats had moved from thier outside into the shelter of the Drying harbor, while the Inshore forcast was for SSW SW force 5 to 7 occasionally 8 too rough to go ashore with the tender (unless very Essencial) even in the relative shelter wind seemed to be south easterly for the most leaving a less than comfortable night But relatively safe, two warps and regular checks, so I made the return in One leaving Tenby around 6am on an outgoing tide to gain the benefit of an ingoing tide in the Channel arriving approx 12 hours later but planning Oxwich as an alternative in case of slow progress, or Swansea for Foul weather. but no problems.

Hi folks.
I've moved this thread. I think that the idea of a pilotage forum was for factual information, rather than questions. If it evolves differently, I'll happily move some or all of this back.
