A great couple of days was had this weekend 17th & 18th June at CYC Regatta, with fabulous weather too! The cruiser racing was well attended with 11 boats racing on Saturday including boats from Cardiff Bay YC & NUSC. The two races on Saturday enjoyed a decent F4 wind, over a course - start (with Inner Wrach to Outer Wrach to port, 1st Sewer to Stbd, N. Cardiff to stbd, line (line being between the pink hut and the Inner Wrach buoy). The second race was a "sausage" , start, N. Cardiff to port, Inner Wrach to port, N. Cardiff to port, line (Inner Wrach to port).
Saturday evening Rowena and her team provided a lovely chicken chasseur or vegetable curry, followed by cheesecake and berries, and later we had a great time dancing along to The Rattlesnakes band. Sadly there were not many people turned out for this evening, however those who did attend had a great time!
Sunday was another glorious day, however not so good for yacht racing as there was hardly any wind. A tough decision as to whether the racing would take place in the bay or in the channel, it was decided that there might be more wind outside (which sadly proved to be incorrect!) Today we were joined by more CBYC boats including 4 IRC fleet. A lot of agonizing went on in deciding the course to be set, bearing in mind the lack of wind and tide times. Finally The course was set fro the IRC fleet, start at Inner Wrach to Stbd, 1st sewer stbd, diffuser stbd, N. Cardiff stbd, line (Inner Wrach to stbd). The NHC fleet had a shorter course which left out the N. Cardiff buoy. Sadly the wind just did not show, the maximum gust throughout the three hours of the race being 5knots! There were no results for that race as everyone was timed out, if they had not already got fed up with drifting and retired!
/back at the clubhouse, once again Rowena and her helpers did us all proud with pulled pork, gammon or turkey rolls, followed by cake. Every skipper was presented with a bottle of wine, and the winners of the Saturday racing received silver plates, and the trophy went to the overall first place. It was nice that each of the 3 represented yacht clubs took a place.
