The members of Portishead Cruising Club once again excelled themselves in the hospitality that they showed us on Saturday 16th April. Sadly, out of the estimated 18-20 people who had been expected, only 8 turned up. Ten boats had advised that they were coming on the trip; the skipper of one boat cancelled as he was ill, a second boat had to turn back due to engine problems and a third boat just didn't come. Of the remaining 7 boats, only the skipper and crew of 5 turned up. Don't know what happened to the other two. We had a good sail over to Portishead, locked out at 11.00 am Saturday morning. It was quite lively, we had to reef, and we saw at least one gust of 28kn. But in all it was a good sail, and the sun was out. On Sunday we locked out early at 07.30 and had a fab trip back, managing to sail in the light winds about half way until we were forced to put the engine on It was glorious, cold but beautifully sunny, and the sea was flat calm - not something we see too often! After I had finished my stint on the helm I enjoyed myself taking photos of buoys. There might be some of you reading this who have not ventured east from Cardiff, so here are some pictures so you know what you are missing! Relaxed sailing on a Sunday morning. Looks good pity about the lack of boats/people we may come on the next trip away depends when and where

Thanks to all who attended for their company over the weekend. I had a really enjoyable sail in both directions. Albeit a bit zig zaggy on the way back, due to the wind direction. Thanks again to the Portishead Club for their hospitality and meal on Saturday night and for the piece of Pineapple cake, and Banana and oat cake that was given as a take away. I ate them Sunday night back on my mooring at our club and enjoyed every crumb. Cheers Steve

Ha ha, that's posh. I had mine with a can of Strongbow, which was also very yummy. :

Strongbow poured over cake is a bit like pouring port into Stilton cheese, spoils both a good drink and a good cheese. But custard on top of cake, now that is a match made in heaven!

Wow, I didn't think of that concoction. Where did you get that recipe. I haven't seen that on "Bake off" Being a simple person, I ate the cakes and washed them down with the Strongbow. But they were both yummy cakes & Strongbow ----------even without custard.
