As I am sure that you all know, access to this forum/message board can be gained from the Club's main website by clicking the Forum button on the site.
It is my opinion that the name "Forum" can be a bit offputting for some, so I am considering asking the webmaster to change the name of the link to something like Chat Room or Message Board, to make it look less formal.
Does anyone have any opinions on this? Or suggestions for a suitable name? Or is Forum the correct description?
Sheila

Hi Sheila, This doesn't really answer your initial post . But though I should say, I can't understand what has happened to this "forum" in recent times. It used to be a great source of info, as well as being the single point of contact for all members of CYC and visitors. Which seemed to work well for all, whether you were a Motor boater, Cruising sailor, Fishermen,a dinghy section member and at the time, even the rowing section member or for following members on their travels or to organising work parties. Nowadays there are splinter sites linked to the club, that seem to be being used as information tools which are not linked to the CYC mainland website & not everyone is aware of them. As well as the Facebook group which not everyone is associated with. It seems a shame that the main site & forum is being left out of the loop when it comes to the "Cruising sections " own web site and " New Cruising in Company system." I feel we should have one site that informs everyone what is going on within the club, no matter what section you follow. I also feel this CYC main forum site would benefit with regular reports on what is happening within the club with regards to the future plans, committee meeting agendas and outcomes. (This could be displayed in the members only section) I must point out that this is purely my opinion & I hope I haven't upset anyone by airing it. Cheers Steve D

There are meetings going on regarding the Club's web site with an aim to just having the one main website with access to all other sites from that main site. A work in progress.
I agree with all you say Steve.

Dilemma now! One reply says leave it be, another in favour of changing! If nobody else replies and expresses an opinion we will leave it as is. Thanks for your input guys.

Unfortunately Sheila no matter what you tag is put to this forum, chat room or message board, it is only as good as the content of contribution. It will only survive if people contribute to the site. Sadly. It could be such a great asset to the club, members and visitors if it was used to its full potential. Cheers Steve D

If forum is offputting for some surely it wouldn't do any harm to change it and see how it goes

Sheila (sorry, I know this is not your responsibility but somehow you are the public face of this thread).
This is the only the only place that I look for club news. No Facebook or other groups. Whatever happens during the website update please can we have just one point for members information. The name is irrelevant.
Email updates are fine once one is in that particular loop but for those that aren't.....too often.....nothing.
Please be inclusive so all members from whatever section ( or non members) can see what's happening across the club so can join in.

One site is all that is required. With each interest sections. Club news is very important to members who live away and gives them a link to what is happening at the club, what is planned for the club and what the club requires of members. A panning web cam would be a big bonus for both club and members. When we kept our boat on the Exe at Starcross it was possible to check she was ok just by going on the web site. Social functions, work parties, sales, wants, calendar, harbour authority news etc. In other words a local newspaper reporting on all the requirements of a boating club - keeping members informed and interaction of members. We all have a common aim, that is to enjoy ourselves on the water. Russell

The Cardiff Yacht club site allows access to the forum but the calandars are not always the same plus there is a calandar on the Blue book site very confusing Plus there is a Faceebook which needs a link from the CYC site Where are the photos gone of the CYC site
