Hello!
Amy is really keen to start dinghy racing to get more to grips with racing the big boat as well and we both love the look of flying15s, so does anyone know of anyone at the club who would be up for taking Amy out for a sail round the bay in a 15 or any other dinghy to see if she likes it?
thanks!

Dan, I don't think many dinghy people look at this forum. Best bet is to have a word with someone like Jim Atkinson or Laurence Wells, I think Laurence has Flying 15. Also try emailing dinghy@cardiffyachtclub.org

Allan you have a PM, thanks for the offer that would be awesome! And Sheila Ill have an ask around the people you mentioned but if we are able to use Allans then we are sorted. Are you off to Bristol Harbour Festival next week?

Hello Zeus, There are 3 active Flying 15s in the club including Niffty Nelly owned by Graham and I. You're very welcome to come out for a sail, we sail wednesday eves and most sundays. The Flying Fifteen is a great boat and a pleasure to sail. Many people are put off by the launching and recovery but as you will see when you come out with us it not an issue. As Allan has said he has a fifteen for sail at very reasonable money, it will sharpen your cruising skills for sure. Laurence

Hi Laurence, thats awesome as well, we've seen Nifty Nelly out a lot! What I was thinking was that we could try and get down so Amy can crew with you one sunday/wednesday so she can learn the launch/recovery and the basics of the boat and then when shes comfortable i can crew for her on Allans boat? Just so we have an idea of what the basics are! Thanks for all the offers of help everyone!

Don't forget this Sunday the dinghy racing is a 5oclock. I can definitely recommend a flying fifteen. I have raced cruisers for 12 years but it wasn't until I got into dinghy racing that I learned the importance of knowing and applying the rules. We often get 2 dozen boats racing and are much closer together than cruisers. Instead of having a slow dinghy at the back of the fleet, trying to keep out of the way and not capsize, in a 15 you can be up at the front of the race and using tactics to beat the opposition. The 15 is a fast keel boat so you don't need to wear a wetsuit because you won't capsize, just a t-shirt and shorts. When it's windy and we get strong gusts, instead of trying to keep upright ☹ just enjoy the exhilaration of the increased speed and smile.☺ Neville.

Dan, we are not going to Bristol unless we drive over. PCC are having their down channel race next weekend and will be at the club. I shall be helping Rowena in the galley on sunday morning.
