The weather is supposed to be great tomorrow so we are looking to lock out at about 2pm for the tide down and anchor in Jackson Bay, Barry. Wait for the tide back up (low tide is at 5.19pm). Any other sailboats wanting to tag along let us know . Any size boats welcome as ours is only 20ft!

Hi Matt
Forgot to ask - did you go to Jacksons Bay? Did you have a good time if you went? Maybe we should get Huw to organise a "Cruise in Company" to Jacksons Bay and all go and have a picnic on the beach or something in August?

The wife didn't rise out of bed until early afternoon so we only managed to get to Sully Island before turning back. If something is organised though I will make sure we are up and ready. An organised trip would be great.

I was thinking of a trip in August to a beach, to perhaps have a BBQ or picnic and maybe some toasted marshmallows on a little fire, game of cricket/volleyball/baseball/frisby, build some sandcastles etc... Basically a nice one for the kids to join in or for those who are still kids!!! I really like Jacksons Bay but it's complicated with the tides; if you go there with the ebb you'll be there over low tide, when the beach is quite muddy and fin keelers will need to be quite far out and not that sheltered. So I'm looking into alternative beaches, but now that the subject has arisen I may as well ask for help, requirements as I see them (so that the trip appeals to as many as possible) are:- - Somewhere that we can get to at the right time with the tides.
- no more than 2-3 hours sail
- Good holding (or moorings)
- Nice beach
- No silly rules about small fires or BBQs
I was also thinking that possibly we could make this our first night sail as a flotilla; aiming to get back to Cardiff just as it's getting dark - experience of locking in at night, but in a familiar place, with more experienced people to follow, and perhaps only the last bit of the trip when it's actually dark (if we time it right!). Or some may prefer to make it our first organised overnight trip??? Of course as always nobody has to follow the 'plan' and can do their own thing whatever the majority want. Suggestions welcome.

I know of a couple on the English side but haven't had chance to sit down and work out the tides etc - or of course we could use a sandbar!
