We currently have a large number of registered forum members who have not been active for some time. In order to manage the membership list I intend to delete any member who hasn't logged in to the forum in over 5 years. I plan to do this on 1st March.
There may be some registered forum members who have been in the habit of viewing the forum as a guest and think it may have been prior to March 2010 since they last logged in. If this is your situation and you would like to retain your membership all you have to do is log on before 1st March 2015 (there is no need to post anything, just logging on will be sufficient to register your activity).
A couple of notes:
1 This only relates to forum membership, it will alter nothing to do with club membership. 2 Guest viewing of the forum will not be affected. 3 If anyone is deleted and wishes to rejoin they are free to do so at any time.
If you have any questions please post them on this thread and I will respond as soon as I can. If not I will proceed as planned on the 1st.
Many thanks Grant

I know, and yes. I have given anyone wishing to contact me a couple of days extra grace but unsurprisingly no-one has objected. I have now deleted any user, not a "member of cyc", who has not logged on since 1st March 2010. This amounted to 68 unused forum accounts.
My intention is that this becomes an annual "spring clean" using a rolling 5 year period but I will make sure there is a similar notification and period of grace each time. Of course the hope is that all users will find something useful and engaging in the forum and will be active contributors.

In the past there were three levels of access to the forum, guest, forum member and club member. The first two each have restrictions on which fora they can access. As far as I'm aware, this has not changed. Allan

I'm not objecting just wondering it you were still doing it, No harm in asking was it. I was just aware that my answer would be providing info for others, certainly not taking issue with your question sorry if you felt I was. Allan is correct about the three levels of access: Anyone can read the public areas of the forum as a guest. You have to register as a member of the forum to post. Members of the club have the status "member of cyc" which allows a user to view the private areas of the forum. My reference to them earlier was that I have not as yet deleted any "member of cyc" from the user list no matter how long their inactivity. Hope that explains things.

You probably have not been seeing the closed areas and therefore have been missing out on some of the messaging
