The aim is to encourage sailors cruiser members (both sail and motor) to visit other yacht clubs, particularly within the Bristol
Channel. Points are awarded for visiting places, and the boat with the highest number of points at the end of the year will win the cup.
Points are awarded as follows:
Visiting a Yacht/Sailing Club listed in the Blue Book 2 Points
Visiting a Marina/Anchorage/Mooring listed in the Blue Book 1 Point
Visiting a YC not listed in the Blue Book, anywhere in the World 1 Point
Taking part in a Yacht/Sailing Club Regatta listed in the Blue Book 5 Bonus Points
1st place in a Regatta of a Yacht/Sailing Club listed in the Blue Book 3 Additional Bonus Points
2nd place in a Regatta of a Yacht/Sailing Club listed in the Blue Book 2 Additional Bonus Points
3nd place in a Regatta of a Yacht/Sailing Club listed in the Blue Book 1 Additional Bonus Point
Visiting another Yacht Club during their Regatta 2 Bonus Points
Taking part in an Official Club Cruise or Day Sail 2 Bonus Points
1. You must post on this forum of your visit within 3 month of the event
2. The competition runs from January to December (with a cut-off of 28 December to allow for administration)
3. You must provide evidence of your visit to the satisfaction. A photo or log book will usually suffice.
4. You must arrive at the destination by boat (or towing a boat)
5. Points are awarded to the boat not to individuals, so you cannot accrue points whilst crewing on board someone else's boat.
6. You can only gain points for visiting a destination once in any year, though your visit which gains you the highest number of points will be the one used.
7. Additional bonus points may be awarded for impressive sailing achievements.
8. The cup will be presented to the skipper(s) of the winning boat at the annual dinner.

Can anyone now tell me who is in charge of the points table. At the cruiser meeting recently Allan asked for volunteers to run this. Was anyone appointed, or have I misunderstood what is happening. I would like to register our trips this year.

Happy to discuss if necessary as it is possible that we need to clarify the points for the various different events. I will leave that to the Sailing Secretary & BBC administrator to decide. We will be taking part in the Holms Race on 6th September. Will report that later.

Further to the above, I wish to add our taking part in the Holms Race in September 1 point for Portishead Marina, and fort taking part in the race which if considered a Regatta then 5 bonus points. Therefore I think this should now be 44 points.

John LeMasonry is now doing the admin for the Blue Book Challenge. The Rules are posted in Matt's Post of July 11th. We'd like to encourage everyone to post their trips, so that there is a bit a competition going on!

At the recent cruiser meeting the deadline for submitting 2014 claims for points has been extended to 24th January for anyone who wants to compete for the trophy which will be presented at the annual dinner on 6th March. Volition won the trophy last year, and does not necessarily want even to compete for it this year (2014). I only posted our claim in an effort to get others to involved. If no one is bothered then I will also withdraw from this competition.

Do I get extra points for never (ever) having turned left out of the locks? If so here's my Blues Book list of places 2014;
Penarth, anchored off waiting for the tide, several times Sully Sailing Club, anchored off several times Barry YC Didn't mean to go here... it's a long story Blue Anchor Bay (England) Minehead - several times by the white mark Lynmouth - anchored off for lunch Oxwich - anchored waiting for the tide. Tenby Lundy Clovelly Padstow (on the Christmas card list) Newlyn (highly recommended and second home for some CYC members) Falmouth (Premier Marina - Should get double points for this as it cost a fortune!) Fowey (nice) Helford River Helford Yacht club (very nice - good pint)
Impressive sailing achievements? All single handed (Billy no mates!) Helford Yacht club - Padstow (London Inn) in just over 12 hours, average 7 knots. How desperate for a pint can you get? Cardiff YC - Tenby in just under 24 hours - now that's impressive!! Average speed just over 3knots ... some of it backwards!
According to Matt's 'Rules' (Rule 7) some of this must be worth 'double bonus' points. There should also be an addition Rule 9 'Further bonus points given to skippers who have to get back for work. An extra point for the skipper who arrives back on his mooring on Monday morning and is in work the same day.
There must be lots of people who have done more

OK. John from Drifter here.
Apart from Sheila, someone call Ishmael (whoever that might be) and possibly me, who else has done any kind of mileage that qualifies for the Blue Book Challenge?
Ishmael (aged 114) can you be more specific with your listings? I think you are supposed to give dates and some kind of proof.
I have only looked at this very briefly but I think it may not be being used because its a bit complicated and not that easy to find. I am completely open to any ideas to make this this more accessible so please let me have them.
In the short term I will try to make sense of what I have and run with that for this year. So far we have just 3 contenders.

Just for the record and all done from memory, here is my list of stops for the Blue Book Challenge.
Wycor Marina (3 times) Portsmouth Marina Yarmouth Dartmouth Plymouth (Queen Anns Battery) Plymouth (Yacht Haven) Falmouth (St Mawes) Falmouth (Mylor Yacht Harbour) Newlyn Padstowe Anchorage Lundy Home.... All done single handed Feb 14 Portishead(twice) Swansea(twice) Newport Bristol (twice) Watchet(3 times) Blue Anchor Roads (3 times) Porlock Weir (twice) Combe Martin (3 times) Back to Lundy Padstow (for the obby oss) Nice! Back to Lundy Back to Swansea Then I start the Summer trip! Combe Martin, Lundy, Padstow Harbour, St Ives, St Marys North and St Marys South, St Agnes (and various other little stops) Penzance, Helford River, Falmouth (St Mawes) and Falmouth itself Then head back... Penzance, St Ives, Padstow Anchorage, Lundy, Coombe Martin, Home There were plenty of other little trips to Bristol and Swansea but I think everyone must be getting bored with this by now. 90% of all trips were single handed. If you think this is a lot, apart from the first part, (when I collected my boat from Portsmouth) High Spirits did an even longer Summer trip! Cant wait for 2015. I'm already getting prepared!

THE BRISTOL CHANNEL CRUISING CHALLENGE The Bristol Channel Cruising Challenge now replaces The Blue Book Challenge as far as CYC is concerned. It continues but is separate from this. You can find an online system at www.sailingquiz.com/ccc/ Its all fully automated and gives EVERYONE of all levels a good chance of winning. There will be TWO mystery destinations in the Bristol Channel which get extra bonus points. The points system is designed to encourage cruising (power and sail) with a nod in the direction of regattas. More points for a HOME regatta or cruise than for an AWAY regatta. The points system is published but your scores are not. They will be revealed at the end of the year. A trophy is awarded at the Annual Dinner. The site is not yet 'live' so you can mess about with is as much as you like. Post questions and problems here. All user data will be reset this coming Sunday and the site will then be live. You will need to register again but only once. I look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions.
