Hi, I'm planning on taking my Vega "Gretchen" down to Milford Haven for a week in August. It's my first long trip out of Cardiff after a failed attempt last summer (I was assured it was summer!)
Has anyone any advice on best route, where to stay or anchor up?
All comments welcome.
Cheers
Pete

I spent a lot of time planning the same trip last Summer and also couldn't find a weather window. I reckon the best approach would be to go to Ilfracombe/ Combe Martin or there abouts, and then continue to Milford on the next tide.

I'd aim for the deepwater pontoon in Dale Bay - no shore access but it is free (I think). Can get crowded in the summer though. Good cafe and pub here. and yachtclub(I've not visited). 5mins in the dinghy. There is also a walk ashore pontoon(dries!) for brief stops if there is room.
Have a good trip - we may do the same thing Cheers, Peter

Hi, thanks both for the advice. I spoke to Pembroke yacht club and they think you can stay overnight (for free) at Hobbs Point further up the Haven.
Here's hoping the weather will be on our side this year!

Beth & I used the sea school in Neyland so know a little about the Haven.
The Dale pontoon is quite bumpy with the wind S or SW. Better to pick up a spare mooring buoy on the south side. Just watch the depth. As I remember there's a phone number posted outside the sailing club. A polite request may give you access to their showers.
Neyland marina has excellent facilities. There are mooring fees of course.
If you fancy checking your pilotage skills, I can recommend a night sail up the Haven.

Thanks Hayden. The night sail sounds interesting, I can imagine all the activity will test your knowledege and keep you awake!
