Unfortunately Angie fell and hurt her arm shortly after we left the barrage, so after about 2 miles I decided to turn back as she wasn't at all comfortable. We did however get some photos in the barrage. Crew of Xanadu line up for their mugs shots, Alana in the background.

We saw Jenny B on the way back in - they promptly turned back on seeing that the forecast smooth sea, was a little lumpier.

Have just spoken to Sheila who reported the rest of the fleet, including Moontide, Perceptor and Red Eye who when out on the 09:00 lock, made it to Newport safely. Apparently it was lumpy and uncomfortable all the way. Hopefully there will be a few more pictures on their return.

It was indeed very bouncy on the way over and I for one was really surprised at the amount of swell on departing Cardiff outer harbour. I think unfortunately that Mike on Xanadu decided to turn back it was that choppy! We were glad to get into the calmer waters of the river arriving at the club at around 12.45. Four or five boats rafted up at the pontoon for the club and we all went and had a well earned lunch and a couple of bevvies. The food was certainly cheap, I think we paid £5.00 for 2 curries and two chip butties! We mis-timed our departure by a little as Alana, being the first boat in the raft, against the pontoon, had a bit of trouble casting off as she was starting to get stuck in the mud. Any later and we would have had to stay for the day! The sun had come out for the trip back, which was a lot more pleasant than on the way over. It was like two completely different days and I am sure that every one enjoyed the day out. So thanks Huw for arranging it all, and what a shame, after all that organising that you couldn't join us. I hope you have better luck with the Flat Holm trip. Sorry, my camera had a flat battery so the pictures that I managed to take were rubbish, apart from the ones of Vince wearing my hat and we don't want to see that again! I only managed to get a couple of shots on the way back using Vince's camera. Hopefully someone else might have taken some photos. Sandpiper setting off, full of expectation of an enhoyable day out! Cobby Girl enjoying a much calmer and warmer afternoon's sail back

I hope all is well with arm. Many thanks for all the work you put in organising the trip. We too had a great time. Our extra crew of Elaine and Peter seemed to have a good time too. I didn't expect to have to climb my mast before we could put the sails up. I was glad the outer harbour was there as I did not fancy the climb in the chop outside the harbour. It was fantastic to see my previous boat being sailed so well. Spirit of freedom. Alana One slip from Vince and this would have been a great photo. Lilly was tired out by the whole thing and had to head for bed. Thanks to all for a great time Allan

Weather was a bit nicer where we were, but gutted we couldn't make it. 5 dives servicing 2 moorings in water at 8 degrees was not enjoyable, however, despite the sun.

Yes, it was a pity I had to turn back, a very hard decision. However, for Sandra and Lara it was their first time outside the barrage and although both were putting a brave face on it, I could see they were very unhappy. So we put the boat away and went out for lunch!
Could have been a warning. On Sunday my starter motor jammed an it took me a couple of hours to sort on the pontoon. Imagine having to cope with that on Saturday.
Pity Huw didn't make it either, especially after all his hard work organising. I'm glad everyone else had a good time and it's great to see all the fantastic photos that have been posted.
Maybe next time...
Cheers,
Mike
