I was having problems with the exhaust on Kinnell....the engine's a Petter AC1WM (aka Mini-6).....there was a big hole in the exhaust elbow whcih I have just patched up with a stainless sleeve clamped on with gungum.
I ran the engine for a couple of minutes to check the repair was working, but noticed that there was no water coming out of the exhaust/water outlet on the stern. I swiftly cut the engine to avoiud overheating. I checked and cleared the water inlet strainer, waited a while and tried again briefly...still no water visible.
I had also noticed this before the repair when i ran the engine briefly, but thought maybe the leaking exhaust meant there was not enough pressure to blow the water out.
Any advice on the next steps to take to try and track down the problem...I'm guessing its maybe the impeller, but any checks I can do before dismantling the pump?

The water cooling seacock on Kinnell is quite difficult to judge when fully open - I pointed this out to Tim when he bought her. If the engine has been run dry, it most likely has burnt out the impeller. There is a full set of engine spares spares which I left in the boat, including an impeller. There was also a length of high temperature sealant left in the boat to cure the exhaust leak and insulate the top section of the pipe

Thanks Phil I presume the seacock needs to be fully opened (anticlockwise!!!) which is what I have been doing. Pretty sure I've sorted the exhaust leak for the time being. I have seen the spare water pump and impellor so that will be my next course of action to open up the pump and check the impellor - it was getting dark by the time I finished on the boat last weekend....not the time to start dismantling water pumps!!! Had a lovely sail in Kinnell a few weeks ago

Glad to hear it. See if you can get her up on the plane!
