The cruiser meeting last Thursday was great, never seen so many poeple in the bar on a thursday night! Here are some of the notes that I made for those who could not attend.
The meeting was gathered to discuss ideas for cruiser events for the coming season.
Huw Mundy opened the meeting at 20.30.
Sheila Parker-Brown began by telling everyone the dates of the important events taking place in or close to the Club that would require our support. These are
• 3 May - AGM
• 13 May – Meet the RNLI Sea Safety Team
• 16 May – Water Sports for Heroes
• 2-3 June – Regatta
• 4-5 June – Bank Holidays
• 6-7 July - BCYA Welsh Rally Cardiff Bay
• 13-15 July – Old Gaffers Sailing Rally
• 9-12 August – Classic Boats Rally
• 1-2 September – Cardiff Harbour Festival & Extreme 40’s
• 7 September – Water Sports for Heroes
Special mention was made of the RNLI event and the Water Sports for Heroes events with a request for members to support these if possible.
The meeting was advised of the Brittany trip and a date set for Friday 11 May for a pre-trip meeting of all those who wish to attend.
A discussion then took place as to how future Cruises in Company should be conducted. It was decided that with so many different types of boat and experience levels of skippers, that all novice sailors would be made fully aware that they would be “looked after” in any way they want, such as locking out together, “buddying up with someone” etc. The general consensus seemed to be that a cruise in company should be just that and all participants should where practical lock out together and arrive more or less together.
We then moved on to suggestions for cruises. These being:
Day trip to Pub Gull & Leek at Flat Holm. Note that we are not anchored at high water.
Jacksons Bay Picnic, September.
A trip to Bristol, to include the Avon Challenge. (possibly include a theatre trip or some such)
Swansea
Lydney possibly for their Festival
Ilfracombe, possibly for their festival.
Sheila & Huw will get together to put some dates for these events.
At the end of the meeting Huw asked everyone if they wanted to join the text/email list if they were not already on it.
