Last April a new Garmin wind vane was installed on Ardua. The vane fell of on Thursday when the mast was stepped for rigging work. It would not stay put when reattached.
On inspection it was found the area around where the vane attaches to the wind sensor was heavily worn. Note that this followed use where the directional sensor did not move freely and typically required 5kn of wind to work.
Has anyone else suffered such problems? I suspect we may be suffering problems due to dirt grit blowing from the bridge causing excessive wear.
