Easter Bank Holiday Cruise 2012 - 6th-9th April. Our Easter cruise this year will depart Cardiff on the Friday heading for Oxwich Bay, Saturday will see us moving on to Burry Port, and then heading back via Ilfracombe on the Sunday, before returning home on the Monday. Many people last year choose to extend their cruise and continue West, after those of us due back in work had sailed for home; with this in mind we're offering the full 2 Blue Book Challenge points to anyone who joins at least one leg of our cruise. We've ordered up the same great weather we enjoyed last Easter, so it should be a cracking weekend! Motorboats also welcome. Friday 6th April - Cardiff (BST):- 0722 12.6m 1340 0.6m 1945 12.8m It is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the skipper to decide whether to enter or continue participating in any event, especially with regard to prevailing and forecast weather conditions. Please also ensure your vessel and it’s equipment is in a sound and seaworthy condition and that you and your crew are suitably experienced, properly prepared, equipped and clothed for adverse weather as required.

I plan to leave about 2 hours before HW on Saturday. Some people are thinking of going to Barry on Thursday evening to get ahead of the tide without such an early morning. Most sites are giving light winds with north in them for most of the weekend. It is too early to be sure, if you ever can. Allan

I've just spoken to Bob, the harbourmaster at Burryport. He says that we can get in from 1800hrs. The harbour has a problem with silt so we will sit in the mud, like at Watchet. He will phone me tomorrow to confirm everything. It would be nice to know some numbers. Allan

I'm planning to be there, aim to lock out about 1 hour before HW on Friday morning (I make that the 06:30 lock). We will probably stay on board Thursday night to make the early start a bit easier and should be in the bar about 21:00. Is anyone else going to be arround then?

We definitely won't be going to Burry Port Al. We'll do Oxwich and then probably make our way back to leave a shorter sail for Louise to get to work. Not sure how that will work yet.
We'll be at the club Thurs, and also up for an early lock out on Fri.

I will be in the club Thursday and leave on an early lock, possibly as early as 0530. I understand that Carol and Graham, Blyth Spirit, are hoping to be in the club on Thursday, before moving abroad. I believe that Thursday will be the last time we see Carol & Graham (Blyth Spirit). How sad for us all.

I believe that Thursday will be the last time we see Carol & Graham (Blyth Spirit). How sad for us all. I was originally intending leaving on Thursday, but am staying to see Graham & Carol - also saw Blyth Spirit waiting to be hauled out behind Force 4. Locking out 'real early' on Friday ;D

Allan, Coracle hopes to be there on the week end, final plans to be fixed closer to the time . Probably return on Sunday See you all Thursday night. Duncan, With the week end fast approaching - and the fact, I have never sailed to Burry Port either I decided to start familiarising myself. Reading up on it, it seems the way in is not buoyed. Access to the Marina is achieved via a sill gate -2 1/2 hrs either side of HW (Time quoted for local yachts and fishing boats ) & using the 5 Way points listed below, that have been identified to gain safe passage over Lynch, Hooper & West Hooper sands. *BP1 - 51 38.173'N 004 21.862'W *BP2 - 51 38.069N 004 18.619'W *BP3 - 51 39.138N 004 17.760W *BP4 - 51 39.649'N 004 15.567'W *BP5 - 51 40.414N 004 14.824W These way points Correct at February 2008, all WGS 84 datum Depth in the Marina is quoted as being 1.5 to 2 M Hope this helps Cheers Jacky & Steve

I believe the following boats are planning to join us for all or some of the trip: Coracle* Camelot* Bright Flyer* Caswyn Volition* Sui* Ishtar Ardua* High Spirits* Chausey* The boats marked *, I believe hope to be in Burryport. The depth at present is 0.9m with the silting but I don't see this as any more of a problem than Watchet. I'll speak to Bob again today and relay any information in the club tomorrow. Allan

Hi Allan,
Xanadu will be there (Burryport) as well. We draw 1.5m but assume our fin will settle OK into the silt as it does at Watchet and Newport Pill. Could limit our entry/exits to much nearer high water though.
See you tomorrow evening.
Mike

I think Hidden Secret will be with us as well.
Note, there is a function on upstairs tonight, so we will be in the downstairs bar - could be a bit crowded!
