A really enjoyable couple of days. 16 boats from Cardiff Yacht club made the trip as part of of first organised cruise of the season. Friday night, pontoons: A good night in the bar, with the crews assembling for the trip. Can't remember the latter part of the evening. There was general agreement that we#d leave around 13:00, or 13:30, or something. Vince remembered that he'd forgotten to launch his boat, but soon fixed that. As the time aproached, we started to head for the locks. Artetta (apologies for the spelling!) The inshore waters forecast was 4-5, occ 6 in the West. It wasn't quite that......

Fred and Runagane, arriving in a packed lock, with Dove and Ardua already in. Paschall was determined to try out the 'Blue bear experience', aboard Sui. He checked his position on the GPS and, horror of horrors, 5 whole minutes later he was in exactly the same place. In that time he had searched his boat for the missing third packet of fig rolls, and, in fact, arrived in Portishead with only a single biscuit left. A close call! Anchored ships:

I think it took four locks to get us all in, including Portishead's own vessels: Some went to the pub for food, and some ate aboard and then went to the pub. We joined Sheila and Vince aboard Volition, where Delia Parker Brown had cooked this beauty: It was great, as was seeing so many CYC members enjoying a drink at the pub later.

As we waited our turn in the 10:30 lock, packing it once again... Some itinerant types were trying to hawk cheap goods, no doubt stragglers from the nearby boat jumble:

It's not all about the sailing, of course. For some, it's about the camaraderie, and for others, the Belgian chocolate cookies: Great fun. Hope everyone had as much fun as we did. If you missed it, see you next time.

Some more photos Ishtar motors past the obstruction in the water! Where it looked like Chausey was reversing in to it! As we were coming round the front of the ships, it really looked at if Chausey was going backwards. On the way back, at first Ishtar wa ahead of us but then we overtook them!

THanks for that Sheila. At last we have some pics of Ishtar sailing!
By the way, if anyone wants to have the priginal picture of their boat (they are 4 times larger), please send me a personal message with your email address and I'll do it. Please don't post your email address here - in case the spammers get hold of it.

Clearly an excellent sail back here's a reasonable shot of volition as they passed us in Ardua Although we did waste an awful amount of time trying in vain to erect a spinica before the wind changed direction. Oh well perhaps we will get a change to use it one day.

Exellent weekend for Arrietta and myself, first proper sail, first time throught the locks and into the Bristol channel. First night sleeping onboard in foreign country, all thanks to my crew, (some who don't understand the concept of queing at locks) and all the people at CYC who have helped me during my early days and made me feel part of the club.

A lovely trip in the sunshine. A complete contrast for Tracy after her introduction to sailing in the squalls of the New Year trip! Not a lot of wind at all on the way to Portishead until we got fairly close. Several times we were not going fast enough to have steerage and at one point the swirls in the tide swung us around so we were drifting backwards to Portishead! Bright Flyer and Xanado locking out with us

Exiting the lock (Or should that be (Chauser-ing or Allan-ing the lock?) Approaching Portishead. Actually it wasn't dark! Just getting dusk. Why can I never have a good picture of me taken? Sui on the way back to Cardiff Locking back into Cardiff

Can I just thank everyone who has contributed to this trip report, especially with pictures. It really is nice to see your boat, and all the other club boats, and it's an excellent advert for this club.
