Hello I have just taken my boat out of the water to replace the water pump impeller as the small tell tail water squirt had almost dried up. Renewing the assembly with a water pump kit is not a little job and can easily go wrong such as sheared studs etc. So getting to the point of this thread, it turned out that the pump impeller was perfect, I changed it anyway of course, the real problem was the marine growth build up in the small tubing that supplies the oil cooler, it was blocked with a shell like build up that was easy to remove, and the engine is now running 100%. This info may already be common knowledge, but it may help some one with the same fault, I think this occurred because I did not use my boat for a month in Feb 2012 and allowed the growth to build. Barrie.

We've had a few scares with out outboard but each time a poke about in the water outlet hole restores the flow to full.
We tend to leave our outboard in the water in the down position and so far we haven't noticed any build up other that the usual scum.
However we do get a lot of build up of small mussel shells on the log sensor paddle wheel which needs a good clean every couple of months.
