'End of BST' Cruise to Bristol - 28th-30th October. We've been invited to join Barry Yacht Club's 'End of BST' Cruise to Bristol on the weekend of 28th-30th October. Concession rates will apply. Many other clubs within the Bristol Channel will also be attending. We need to give an indication of numbers, so if you are likely to going (even if weather permitting) please contact Tony Burris on 07753987884. If you get the answerphone please leave a message with your name, phone number and boat name. Tony says "This cruise could make up for the rugby result!" It is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the skipper to decide whether to enter or continue participating in any event, especially with regard to prevailing and forecast weather conditions. Please also ensure your vessel and it’s equipment is in a sound and seaworthy condition and that you and your crew are suitably experienced, properly prepared, equipped and clothed for adverse weather as required.

Huw, any idea what plans BYC have? High tide is about 2100hrs on Friday night, I think as I don't have a book with me at present. Allan

I don't think your tide times are correct Huw. Tides will always be around 42mins later each day and your tides for Sunday are about 10mins earlier than Sat. The times for Cardiff according to EasyTide (with allowance for BST) are:
Friday 28th Oct 02:39 0.6m 08:34 13.1m 14:59 0.6m 20:57 13.1m
Saturday 29th Oct 03:22 0.8m 09:18 12.9m 15:41 0.8m 21:40 12.8m
Sunday 30th Oct 04:00 1.2m 09:59 12.5m 16:20 1.3m 22:22 12.1m
I'm not saying that EasyTide is the definitive source, but your times for Sunday can't be right!!
Julian.

I did say 'all local time'! Though there is quite some difference in the times and levels between your Easy tide and my Navionics!
More info from Tony Burris:-
He's planning to lock out at 1200 on Friday, as he's concerned there won't be enough water for him to lock out much later due to the big spring tide LW. He's planning to arrive at Bristol City Docks at 1800 as the only lock-in that evening is at 1830. All Yacht Clubs are planning to meet on Friday night at the Cottage Inn, just above the lock. The plan is to then move to the reserved (and discounted) berths at St Augustine Reach on Saturday morning. Again, we need to give an indication of numbers, so if you are likely to going (even if weather permitting) please contact Tony Burris on 07753987884.

Obviously, those unable to leave on Friday could leave Saturday and join in then. If doing this please still phone Tony to secure your place at St Augustine Reach.

The only lock-in? Are there any rules to these restrictions? 'Katy' won't be setting sail until Saturday because Matthew has a 'proper' job. Is there a limited number of lock-ins on Sat too?

As it is a spring tide the stop lock in the channel next to the Junction bridge will be closed. Normally it is possible to lock in later but you have to stay in the Cumberland basin overnight. I will try to remember to speak to the lock keeper tonight and post the answer on here. Allan

Just had a reply from the lockmaster in Bristol re Saturday:
"Lock times on Sat 29th
1851 to 2151 Stop gates go on at 2023 until 2249. This is a restriction however you can enter harbour, once in Cumberland Basin, after stop gates come off.

You missed a good day today Fred. Not enough wind but plenty of sun. Lots of boats in both locks. Allan
