Talking to some Lydney YC members in the bar last night, we were told that this year the Lydney Festival was taking place at the same time again. I don't know how big it will be but if it anything like the festival that took place in 2009 then it is well worth a visit. There will be Lydney Training Band and Folk Festival Music, River Severn Fishermen & Forest of Dean History Society. See shevin's posts in Sailing chat in July 2009. cardiffyachtclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=cruisingchat&action=display&thread=259Also this link www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=161308170572995&ref=nfIt would be helpful if you could let me know if you intend to go for this YC rally, as I need to let Lydney know roughly how many boats to expect from us as they may want to move some of their own boats in to the inner lock. If the weather's good this will be a fantastic weekend. By the way, all musicians, bring your intrument(s) with you for jamming sessions at the club in the evening.

hi there I have to be in London Thursday and Friday nights 16th and 17th June, but Bill fancies taking Sanibel to Lydney. I could join in the fun on the saturday evening - would anyone fancy keeping Bill company on the trip up, (maybe on the way back too?) - he hasn't sailed single handed yet Mary

hello all
just wondering what people's plans are for this trip?
looks like we need to leave Cardiff Friday afternoon or else stupid o'clock Saturday Morning?
Maybe stop at Portishead or Thornbury Friday night?
Has anybody got exact tide times (I'm just guessing), or know how long before HW we can get in?

Lydney Tide times are HW Cardiff +0050 HW Avonmouth +0100 Be at the old Severn Bridge 2 1/2 hours before HW Lydney. Arrive at Lydney between 60 and 30 minutes before HW.

We are aiming to make this trip which will be our first venture under the bridges. Probably overnight Portishead on Friday so we can make first attempt at Lydney in good daylight.

The atmosphere at last years Lydney festival was wonderful, way better than any silly wedding! No families fighting or kids crying, no kids telling Dad off for his dancing and Dad didn't have to pay for everything! Would you guess I'm divorced? Have a great time Fred. Allan

Oh dear, best laid plans & all that. Beth has gone to Northampton to nurse son & daughter-in-law who both have 'real' flu and help look after grandchildren. Enjoy Lydney everyone!
