Thought I'd post a few pics of our recent sailing holiday in the North & South Ionian. We visited harbours both on Greece mainland and islands of Corfu, Paxos, Anti Paxos, Lefkas, Ithaca & Kefalonia. On the mainland we went to Sagiada, where we met up with our friend and fellow CYC member Richard. It was great to see him and he took us around in his car and introduced us to his friends in the village. In his friend's taverna where we had drinks and food for virtually nothing - well 5 euros! At the Albanian border Richard's boat Minstrel, a Mirage 28 same make as ours, surrounded by the Sailing Holidays flotilla! Our boat was moored alongside this! Owned by some gentlemen from Cowbridge, they keep it at Gouvia marina on Corfu. They rather thought it was a Welsh convention what with Richard flying a Welsh flag on Minstrel and us arriving flying our Welsh flag and the CYC burgee. There is a web cam at Sagiada and I often look to see what the weather is doing and who is coming and going. You can see Richard's boat on it www.metar.gr/siorramalia/

After Sagiada we went on to Sivota/Mourtos also on the mainland then we crossed over to Monganisi on Paxos Island, and then on to Gaios, the main town on Paxos. Between Monganisi & Gaois we visited Emeral Bay on Anti Paxos. the water in the bay is so beautiful, and when you look up at the seagulls flying overhead, the undersides of their wings look blue with the reflection of the water. Vince went for a swim, but the water is still quite cold at this time of the year so sensibly took the precaution of wearing his wet suit. We were anchored alongside our friends Sally & Jim who were sailing with their son Chris & his girlfriend. Chris is big into fishing and managed to catch 3 fish that afternoon. All four of them came on board our boat for lunch that day. It was lovely. After Gaios we had "the long trip south", a journey of about 36 miles down to the Lefkas canal and in to the southern Ionian. This is a motor all the way job, as we have to make the bridge for a specific time, and then once through to refuel. In the southern Ionian we visited Little Port Vathi on Meganisi Isalnd, Frikes & Kioni on Ithaca Island, Fiskardo on Kefalonia, Vassiliki on Lefkas then back to Meganisi to Spartahori, ending our holiday at Sivota on Lefkas. We had some jolly good sailing down here, and managed to get the cruising chute on many occassions and generally had a brilliant time. Frikes Kioni Fiskado Sally & Jim arrive at Vassiliki. It was blowing a hooley on that day, within the bay with all the catabatic winds. We were moored up between two privately owned yachts. When they saw me on the helm reversing in to the gap between them, the skippers (both British) were looking very worried, ready with their roving fenders! Needless to say I placed the boat perfectly without even so much as brushing a fender! After Vassiliki it was back up to Meganisi to Spartahori. We had a fabulous sail that day, with the cruising chute up for a good 3 or 4 hours, just sailing around. The owner of Sailing Holidays was out and about on his fabulous boat doing photos for next year's brochure and took several of us. We must look out to see if we are in it next year. Spartahori is a lovely little spot, very quiet, and it was really hot. We ate on board our new friends' boat that evening, and had a lovely time. Tow of our lead crew, Andy & Liam, waiting for the rest of the flotilla to come in. Sunset Our last day was a trip back down south to Sivota on Lefkas. Unfortunately there was very little wind, so had to motor all the way down dthe coast of Meganisi until we crossed over to Lefkas, when there was really too much wind, gusting 25knots so we had to reef, so our last day's sail was not the best. However, we had a great evening at the farewell party, and decided that this had been the best sailing holiday yet.

I really wish I had not looked at the picture of Vince in a rubber suit! I may have trouble sleeping! Allan
