I was reading the history of the famous yacht 'Jester' the other day and I came across a quote about sailing I really liked. Evidently it comes from a New England whaling captain who came back from a year long voyage empty handed
'No, we saw no whales, but we had a damn fine sail'
I really like the sentiment in that. Sums up sailing for me.
Any other quotes?

The pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist expects it to change, the realist adjusts the sails.
What a yacht is . . . is not a keel and a hull and a deck and sails. Thats what a yacht needs. What a yacht is . . . is freedom.
