As many of you know, I've been doing a bit of training on Wednesday evening. I've only recently qualified, so I'm trying to get some experience and help you out at the same time.
The general plan is to meet by the flagpole at 6pm for a short talk, and then go out sailing. If you want to use one of the club boats (Toppers, Enterprise, Laser) please let me know in advance. If you're down early, get your boat rigged up beforehand.
These will be 'improver' sessions, not complete beginners'. I need to assume you can rig, launch, get yourself out through the moorings, and generally sail about with minimal assistance (of course if you're a beginner crew for an experienced helm that's fine!). I'll normally set up a smaller separate training course, or you can just go and take part in the main race if you want.
This week I'm going to talk about the basics of rules of the road, mark rounding and the starting procedure for the races. Come along with your questions and then we'll go out and practice.
Cheers Peter

Sorry, no training will be available this Wednesday (19th May) as both Graham and myself will be running the main race.
If you want to borrow a club boat please let me know in advance. You must have RYA level 2 / junior stage 3 to do so as there will be no instructor available.

Peter, we did talk about coming down this Weds, but it looks like you are otherwise engaged. I sent an email to Jim yesterday about whether it will be possible to sail, but I don't think he has picked it up. I wouldn't mind coming down for a chat even it it isn't possible to sail, I am having a tow bar fitted on Weds and would like a bit of advice about getting my boat in the water on the weekend.

Yes, come down. You can always come out with us on the committee boat if we can't sort you out with a sail.

Sorry, I'm not going to make it again tonight - too much to do at work If anybody has any specific requests for the future - '5 essentials', getting your hands right with tacking / gybing, rules of the road, racing procedures, man overboard / coming along side etc. etc. let me know. I should be able to make it next week. Peter

I'm planning on being there this Wednesday.
I've had a request for basic race procedure info. If you don't know whats what, or need reminding / have specific questions - meet by the flagpole for a discussion before you go out.
if you want to borrow a club boat please let me know in advance and I'll see what I can do.

Can you tell me if you are starting any training on the weekends please, my boy (harley) who is thirteen would love to learn the arts with you but due to living in Newport makes it a bit tight to get to you on weeknights. He has sailed with the scouts but has no certificates and would like to progress. Any info would be greatfully recieved.

This is just to let peple know that I am unlikely to be able to continue with any training on a Wednesday evening - sorry.
If you want to do an official RYA course, we will be running these on a regular basis at varying levels. Keep checking here / notice boards etc. for more info.
The next courses begin this Tuesday evening (13th July) and will continue for 6 - 8 weeks depending on people's requirements every Tuesday, 6-9pm. This time we are running Junior Stage 2 and Adult Level 1-2. They are almost full, but there may still be a couple of spaces left. Contact Will Colles willcolles@hotmail.co.uk to confirm / book.
We are considering the possibility of weekend courses. If there is enough demand / instructor availability they may happen - watch this space..
