Just wondering if any one on here has entered?
3rd time lucky for me hopefully. 2 previous attempts have resulted in me paying £10 for a dud raffle ticket ha!
Fingers & toes crossed for Sunday then. As a rule I don't believe in killing fish for competitions but I do like the feeling of getting prepared for one, so I allow myself to enter just this one per year.
I like to say I would easily have a cabinet full of trophies if I did fish for comps hehe ;D. Guess I'll never know...
Anyways, tight lines to anyone fishing Sunday if it goes ahead

I'm sure there are plenty of people in the club who'd be keen to take some fish off your hands so they don't die needlessly. Even conger makes great fishcakes!

I need to get an ice box or 2 on board then. Ive had some beautiful Rays as well this year which would fry up nice in butter & pepper (wouldn't kill the pregnant females of course). I say this as I watch (another) episode of Deadliest Catch.
Just checked weather again & it's looking very much cancelled at the moment. I better start with the positive thinking again. Why did I order so much bait I wonder?

So.. the positive thinking paid off. I partook in my 1st Cod comp.
No other species of fish allowed at the weigh in. This caused a laugh as we had a couple of decent Congers & a couple of decent Rays but as they broke the surface we all moaned! Not our normal reaction.
Anyway, nothing to weigh in but we had a great breakfast at CBYC, a great laugh on board, watched a great sunset & I got the night time experience I wanted going out & coming in.
Oh, and in the lock in, a guy from Swansea gave me a huge tray of quality leftover ragworm & lugworm (est £20 worth easily) and I've got the week off!
This Cod comp ain't over for me it seems... it's time to get personal.
More positive thinking, I WILL be posting a picture of a juicey Cod soon.

So what time did this competition start and finish, Mark, if you came back in after dark? (I was going to say ......back in after dark, Mark? but thought it sounded like a dog barking!) Where abouts were you fishing? I drove over to Penarth front on Sunday afternoon early, there were quite a few boats out (must have been around low water time) but I couldn't see if they were fishing or what. Really looking forward to some more nice fishy piccys!

Hi Shevin
I came in on the 5.15pm lock (you were allowed to weigh in fish up until 6pm latest). I started the day (8.00am) at the Ranney area slightly North of Ranney spit, then as the tide eased I anchored about half a mile or so off the Pier. If you could draw a line from the Pier, Cardiff North & Cardiff Mid, I was roughly in a spot where they all would cross. The waves grew uncomfortably large after an about an hour so made my way over to the Foreshore area. After a couple of hours the weather calmed & if it wasn't for the huge tidal flow I would have tried another spot.
That's the trouble with the big tides you have to stay put when the tide is running because you risk not being able to get the anchor down properly again. If you're in a dead spot you just have to wait. That's fishing I suppose!
Haven't been able to get out since Sunday, this wind is relentless. (Ive discovered badminton as a result of not being able to get outside. Awesome game!)

Hi Mark
I must have seen you out there then when I drove along the front. The wind has been pretty awful this week hasn't it. Today when I finished work (10.00 am) Vince and I were going to go up town for a bit of Crhistmas shopping, but it was so sunny and nice that we decided to give it a miss and go for a little sail instead. We locked out at 12.00 (with Tony "Barebones") and had a lovely sail down towards Flat Holm, reaching 6.4 kn through the water - top speed for us - (9.3 kn over ground). Did a tack and came back (didn't want to be out too long) sailed about for a bit longer then came back in on the 13.45 lock. It was a bit lively at times out there, but all in all a great sail. Have to make the most of every good day we can at this time of year. Looks like it is going to be pretty horrid weather again this weekend. Still waiting for fishy pics!
Cheers Sheila
