2 years ago we towed my mate's RIB from St David's to Oban on the West coast of Scotland.
We agreed that I would tow, but that we would renew the hub studs before leaving. Ordered 8 new ones from towsure and fitted them.
On the way back from St David's there was an accident and we were redirected across the bridge and through narrow lanes, adding three hours to our trip. On the bridge at Carmarthen, in the rush hour, BOTH wheels came off. Luckily, being on a bridge between two roundabouts, we were doing about 20mph.
6 of the 8 new wheel studs had sheared.
We stripped enough stainless bolts from the RIB to renew some of the studs. With Police help we got 200 yards before they sheared as well.
My mate drove home and got some more bolts. It was now 10pm after an 8am start.
2 miles later, same again.
He called the AA and joined. Arrived home at 2am.
On the way to Scotland we had a puncture on the trailer and on the way back, another puncture. we managed 3 dives in 2 weeks, as the weather was so wet and windy.
Towsure denied selling us the wheel studs, even though we had a receipt.
Now, I can laugh at it. Then, I was almost suicidal. Doubt it will make you feel much better, but it does happen to other people as well..........
