I have been requested to help with this report, I am sure it does not affect our club fishermen, if you can help then PLEASE do......Thanks! I have alredy posted this report on the Fishing section.
Re the following report from Marine Conservation Society (MCS):
Wales A total of 49,473 litter items were collected on 56 beaches over a total length of 19.40 km. On average 2,549.9 items of litter /km were found, higher than the UK average (2,195/km), a slight decrease of 3.95% in density levels when compared to 2007 (2,654.8/km).
Public litter was the main source of litter recorded on beaches surveyed in Wales with a density of 816.9 items/km surveyed. The second most common source of litter in Wales was fishing with a density of 462.9 items/km, much higher than the UK average (302.8/km) and the highest density of fishing litter for any EU country. SRD was the third biggest source of litter in Wales (94.1/km) followed by shipping litter with a density of 40.3/km. Can you help with the Fishing Litter Problem regarding your contacts in fishing.
I would find it difficult to really publicise this issue on the Celtic Ocean website (other than urging people to take their litter home) as much as Iwant to, because it could be perceived as damaging to the tourist industry.
A full report from MSC is below.
With your contacts in fishing can you help?
Regards
Barrie
