It's become tradition to have a CYC New Years Sail around Flat Holm. However, this years tides will force this to be a 08:30 lock out, which with it being New Years Day might not be popular! So do we need to consider an afternoon/evening sail or move it to the following day?
We usually lock out 2 hours before LW.
Cardiff Tides (GMT):-
New Years Day (Saturday):-
04:04 10.0m
10:24 3.3m
16:38 10.1m
2nd January (Sunday):-
05:08 10.4m
11:24 2.9m
17:34 10.5m
So there are three options as I see it:-
1. Stick with tradition and lock out at 08:30 on New years day to go round Flat Holm.
Disadvantage:- Early start after probable heavy and late night!
2. Lock out at 14:00 ish on New Years Day and sail with the tide towards somewhere (a buoy perhaps) off Newport and back. Disadvantages:- Not quite as interesting to round a buoy, and some might be put off by half the sail being in the dark (though some might see that as an advantage).
3. Lock out at 09:30 on 2nd January and sail around Flat Holm and back.
Disadvantage:- Some people (like myself) may be back in work on the 2nd.
I'd like to see as many boats/people as possible taking part in whichever option is chosen. As I recall last time we had 11 boats out, and it would be great to top that. So please select the option in the poll that you are most likely to attend. This poll closes on Monday 13th December just before 9pm. I'll put a poster up in the club advertising the winning choice.
Whatever the choice, taking part will earn you 2 points towards the new Blue Book Challenge Cup! - details soon.
