He was talking about heading South last week. I note that Blue Bear has gone, does anyone know whether he decided to go for it?

I understand that there is a sudden shortage of wine in the Roscoff area of Brittany. Allan

That's great news. There's a nasty low throwing a swell into Biscay at the moment, so I think that shortage may get worse before it gets better.

hi Guys, decided to stop at Marina du Chateau, in Brest. have been experiencing, some strong winds and every forecast, seems to give gale warnings, but at 85 euros per week I,ll sit out this low, and check out the City's history before moving further south.

Yes, keep posting, Bri, good to hear from you. I believe there is a cup for the furthest distance travelled from Cardiff, so you'll be up for that. Not sure who has it at the moment, but you deserve it more!

Stopped off in a few places the first planned stop was L'aber wrach but wind direction put us off by about 30 miles at Roscoff, but we had a steady 6.5 Knots through the water, over ground was not much different, with 2 reefs in the main and bearly any genoa, the English Channel is Certainly a Busy place, and not to be taken lightly in poor conditions. but up to now it has been Challenging enough to make you think why am I doing this at the time, but when we arrive at destination what a great feeling.

Brian, Great to see you and Sue are doing so well. I'm sure lots of people at the club are as jealous as I am! How far are you planning to go? The Rade de Brest is a great place to sail and explore, I think I would get stuck there. Allan

Had my first real taste of the Marinas hospitality, I needed a Gas refill I use Calor gas 4.5 Kg Bottles I cannot get these refilled so the Marina staff took me in the Van around Brest, to find an alternative... Gas was easy to get but a regulator to fit their own type bottles took a while to find. I was amazed at the Patience shown top marks I think

We sailed around the Rade de Brest before entering the Marina it is a brilliant sailing area and is even now very busy with French sailors, it has many anchorages and visitor Moorings all is well sheltered, and we are able to sail quite a way up the rivers which also have places to anchor surrounded by woodland

Brian. DO NOT tell Allan how far you intend to go. The cup is at stake! I saw him at the club earlier, piling provisions onto Chausey. Keep schtum mate!

Blue Bear has already done enough to take the cup off me! I'm happy to relinquish my hold on it (for this year!) I'm starting to plan next year now! Allan

Chausey has done ~1950 miles, so may go over 2000 in the near future. With the delivery trips of Camalot, Little Bear and one more planned for later this month, I should be able to add ~650 miles to that. Allan

Hi Brian anf Sue
The last long distance cup went to Dave and Cheryn Jones on Jacona who made the carribean.
The only rules that I am aware of is you must start and finish at CYC and you must show your full log to the sailing sec upon your retuirn to the UK, but I shall confirm this with Tony Burris
Hope you have some good and safe sailing.
Look forward to your updates
Regards
Your commodore

Look forward to your updates Regards Your commodore There are two awards related to distance sailed; the first, a plaque - The Bristol Channel Marine Ocean Award - is presented to a member in recognition of them crossing an ocean. This was indeed last presented to Dave and Cheryn Jones, for their Atlantic crossing to the Caribean onboard Jacona a few years back. The second, a cup - The Tony Burris Long Distance Award - is presented for the longest voyage, by rhumb line, undertaken by a member. The voyage must start and finish at the club, and must have been under sail for at least 50% of the time. This was presented last year to Allan Fawcus for his trip to the Isles of Chausey (about 8Nm NW of Granville, Normandy) after which his boat Chausey is named. So if Brian and Sue return to the club, Allan will lose the cup!

Hi Huw. It was Allan's cup I was talking about. I was talking to Brian about taking the cup from Allan before he left - hence the gentle wind up.

Now, now, Guys This is not about the Cup Huw told me I would have to return to the Club By November to Collect the Cup this will not happen unless I am unfortunate of course. I feel we knew it was a wind up, Unusual For Martin though it adds to the fun, Doesn't it? Buttttt I will have sailed the furthest this year ;D ;D if all goes well of Course.

I knew which cup we were talking about, but was clarifying for others.
Just been looking at Martin's club cruising map looks to me that even if Brian doesn't return, the cup will probably go to Mike on Redeye - unless Allan can pull the stops out. A quick round Fastnet at the weekend should do the trick Al!
