winter wonderland

Well... I went sailing today and had the bay all to myself...it was cold, i can say with authority. Ropes frozen, sheets frozen,...to say nothing of my behind....i sat on a coli of mooring line to prevent sticking to the seats!

Anyone want to crew on the new years day sail...i could do with someone to navigate....my boat is primitive but we do have a stove for tea/hot chocolate!!!!!

Vince had been going to go out on Sunday morning, but then decided it was far too cold even for him! But there was discussion amongst the few of us up in the Club bar as to who was the mad person sailing about in the Bay - now we know!

;D Yes i did question my own sanity....but i had not been out far ages and was really looking forward to a sail after two weeks of looking after ill folk - first my girlfriend then my 2 year old had nasty lurgys.

First task was digging the inflatable out of the snow, then on reaching the mooring, clearing ice and snow off decks and cockpit, then pumping the bilge - the plastic pump handle snapped it was so brittle with cold!!!

Getting the knots on mooring ropes unfrozen was the next bit of fun...ended up having to pour my precious flask of tea over the knot!!!

After that I just had to pretend I was David Lewis in Icebird.

Seriously it was a great little adventure, and the mug of hot chocolate cooked on the stove in the boat when i got back to the mooring was fab!
