Firstly, can I say that there is NO truth in the rumour that Vince has stormed off sailing in a huff because someone referred to him as Sheila's father last week.......... ;D
Just spoke to him on the Phone. He's a few miles from Padstow, where they spent they will spend the night. Last night they were on the on the RNLI buoy at Appledore. Andy and Plato are with him, with dave on Wyndsong way ahead.
Scillies tomorrow, if all goes to plan.
Good luck lads!

When I spoke to Jane (boat March Hare from Appledore, visiting at Cardiff YC) last night and told her that they were moored on the life-boat buoy at Appledore, she did say that they were probably in for an uncomfortable night, and when I spoke to Vince this morning he confirmed that that had been the case. So he was still feeling quite tired this morning after only having had 2 1/2 hours sleep on Friday, then a bad night last night. However, spoke to him just after 9 this evening, and they were all having a nice social time on Wyndsong in Padstow. So you might be wondering how come I am doing posts on the forum at 10.15 pm, when I am usually tucked up in bed at such a late hour. Well, it's because I am billy no mates at the moment! Allan went off to Silverstone, I think Paschall might have gone to Ireland, Martin & Louise away down west, but don't worry about me, I'll be alright on my own! (Going for the sympathy thing here) Funny about the father bit - on the eve of my wedding to my former husband, as I was arriving at the jpub, the guy who was to be the MC at the wedding said to me that my dad was in the bar. I really couldn't work that out, because I knew that my dad was not going to arrive until the morning, so I was really confused. It was only when I actually walked in that I realised that the person to whom he was referring was actually my husband to be! Is it me or what? And by the way, my dad is actually a very young looking 92 years of age!

They reached St Mary's Bay around 2.30 yesterday afternoon. Just had an email from Vince, the forecast wind got up last night so I think it was quite bouncy where they were moored, but he said he had a good sleep. Their overnight in Appledore moored on the life boat buoy had not been good, nor I believe their overnight in St Ives - Alana and Wyndsong were rafted together. With the forecast weather conditions I don't think they will be moving until Sunday at least. Vince did text me a couple of photos, but the quality when I had downloaded them to the computer are not very good, so no point in posting them. Unfortunately Vince forgot to take a camera in the rush to go, but I hope he can manage to get a cheapy while he is there - not to mention bringing me a nice present back!

Just got some pictures from him, Sheila. I'm really jealous, although I know that Wyndsong and Plato have been trying to reach the Scillies for years. Second group from the club to get there this year, after Chausey and Blue bear. Here's vince enjoying himself on teh beach with all of his mates:

I just spoke with Vince again. They are on St Mary's, he's been using his laptop to get on the internet via wifi. It's been a squally day, and the four boats are sheltering from bad weather. They are thinking of mioving to Tresco in a day or two to avoid some gales. Thinking they may come back via the Welsh side of the channel.
I told him about the Lundy trip, so those going, keep an eye out!

Just looked at the weather for the Lundy trip, which looks OK. xcweather is showing the current wind for St Marys as 25-41 mph. I hope the boys had a good night. Allan

Martin, he's got hairier legs than that! I think they had a pretty rough night with seriously strong winds. I think both Alana & Wyndsong got broken mooring lines (although they were still safely attached to the buoys) and Wyndsong lost his dinghy and outboard, but apparently some kind man managed somehow to rescue it this morning and Vince & Dave are going to tow it back to the boat later. One boat in the harbour ended up on the rocks, don't know whether it was anchor drag or broken mooring lines. (Fortunately none of our boats). All are quite happy though it seems, but will not be moving until tomorrow due to winds still being too strong to go anywhere.

Hope they are all saef and well. We were away diving, and there were howling winds on Thursday night, a gust of 85mph recorded somewhere in Pembs. We managed to find a safe spot for two dives on Sat, but it really was bouncy. Came home early today, rather than stay the planned extra couple of days.

Saturday (or was it Friday?) they moved from ST mary's and took up moorings between the two islands of Tresco and is it Bryher? (Don't know the Isles of Scilly that well). They had a nice day there I think, and yesterday, Sunday they moved back over to St Mary's. Plan was to depart IOS at 04.00 this morning bound for Padstow. Just as an aside and totally unrelated but a bit of trivia, first, in trying to sort out and deal with Vince's lost mobile and credit cards, I can't believe how many people in UK call centres, banking, mobile phones, seem to think that the Isles of Scilly are some where abroad and not part of the UK. Second, while doing my cross-word this weekend I had cause to look in the dictionary and did you know that the the earliest meaning of the word "arrive" was "bring a ship to shore, or to a port". It comes from old French "ariver" from the Latin "ripa" - "shore". There you are, you learn something every day don't you!

Glad to hear they are back safe and sound. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures. It would be particularly good to hear any lessons learned, apart from keep your hands on your phone and credit cards! Allan

Allan I thought all that 'lost my wallet' stuff was Vince just covering up for spending all that money on booze? ;D
