Cardiff Yacht Club has a very successful fishing section who fish the waters of the Bristol Channel. Many species of fish are caught in these waters. In the summer months you are likely to come across conger, mackerel, bass, pollack, bull, huss, smoothhound and many species of ray. While in the winter months it is an anglers paradise for cod and whiting with some cod reaching the 40lb mark.
The fishing section runs competitions nearly every Sunday with three prizes per competition, it also holds children's competitions which are totally free to club members. The fishermen are a friendly lot and are always willing to help each other out with boating problems. Something not often encountered in this day and age. They are members of the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers which gives valuable advice on minimum fish weights and many other aspects on sea fishing. Some of the boats in this section need crew members to operate because of their size, so you do not necessarily need a boat to go fishing. So come and join Cardiff Yacht Club and enjoy having a go at the big'uns.
