As a few of you have commented that it would be nice to actually land on Flat Holm instead of just sailing round it. I’ve arranged for us to visit the Island on 30th May and have a guided tour.
The plan is to leave on the 08:00 lock and sail to the North East of the Island where we will anchor. I plan to tow my dinghy out there so I can ferry people ashore, though if there is a lot of interest, it might speed things up if someone else brought a dinghy too.
I’m going to stay onboard, to keep an eye out for dragging anchors, so you can all enjoy your tour without worry. I hope to arrange another trip later in the year though if there is enough interest, when hopefully someone else will volunteer for anchor watch to allow me to go ashore.
There will be a landing fee of £4 per person which will include the tour.
I need to let the Flat Holm project manager know in advance how many of us will be there – I appreciate the weather will be a deciding factor for many, but can you please let me know if you plan to go weather permitting?
Mobos welcome.
Keep an eye on these pages – I hope to announce a couple more cruises in the next week or so.

Yes that right, my calendar says it's the Spring bank holiday, but I'm sure it used to be the Whitsun BH?

We'll be up for that as well Huw, providing no family things come up or anything else like that!

Nice one Huw, I will be interested, although we have done the trip before and would look forward to another as we so enjoyed the tour. Slight problem SWMBO is not to happy transferring to a dingy, any chance of a pontoon landing?

We would love to come but chances are Jock will be putting our boat in the water the sat before (we are working in N.Wales) and mon will be the first chance to check everything is ok. Probably be shaking down in the bay. Will let you know if we get afloat earlier.

Sorry don't think there's a pontoon option. However it is a fairly large stout dinghy, not a little blow-up job, if that reasures her.

We would hope to be there but it is way to far in the distance for me to plan it now. Last week I planned to be home on Thursday afternoon and finally got there Sunday evening! Planning is part of my skill set! (oops, I used to be a manager, sometimes the managerspeak creeps in). Allan

Maybe CAVRA can help if you don't mind a RIB coming along for the trip... In terms of landing when I spoke with them last year they only have an accessible harbour (jetty) at high tides.

If you're willing to help ferry people to the shore you'd be more than welcome! The trip is timed to coincide with high tide.

That's pretty much the lines I was thinking along sandpiper, i'll check with the boss but I don't think it'll be a problem, I'm not aware of any other commitments that day and it'll be a good training opportunity for our newly qualified coxn's. I'll let you know via this board if we can help out.

Hi all
The Flat Holm warden needs to know how many people will be landing on the Island. So could you all please post on here, or PM me if you are interested. So far I have:-
Ishtar Alana Snacko (sorry not sure if that’s also your boat’s name?) Spirit of Freedom Jenny B Sunrider
but I need to know how many people you'll each have on board.
As I said before I just need to know how many of you will be there if the weather is good. I know there's a fair chance that a good few of you will only want to anchor off Flatholm in good weather, which I totally understand, as do the Flat holm people. There is a maximum number of people they permit on the Island at a time so they need to check that our numbers and theirs on the Lewis Alexander won't exceed the limit.
And specially for Mrs Snacko - we can use the jetty on the Island FOR DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP ONLY, as long as it's not between from 9.15 to 9.45 and 12.15 to 12.45, when the Lewis Alexander will need clear access.
Also we currently have Peter and Elaine, and Chris and Susie looking for a ride, anyone looking for crew?

Hi Huw,
Louise and I are struggling to make this one. I'm still hoping, but we are off to the med for a week next week, and time seems to be dissapperaing on us. It's probably easier to count us out if you need definite numbers at this stage.

Martin - It's more a maximum number I need. so if there's better than a 50:50 chance of you making it then I'd prefer to include you.

We can offer a ride for two, but Spirit is only 22ft so the cockpit is quite cosy. Beth makes good tea, though.
Anyone interested send a PM. You'll need your own lifejackets.

Matt you'll be welcome, however I imagine most people will be leaving the island by 14:00ish (HW Flat holm is 12:22 BST). Though there are no time limits. I successfully anchored off there on Monday over low tide without any issues.

No problem, the missus is moaning about getting up even for mid day (what a lazy bones eh?)so we'll probably just have a potter around between Penarth and lavernock as the waterski championships are cutting the bay in half on the weekend. Perhaps next time!
