Vince, Allan and myself went out for a few hours on Chausey yesterday. After Bangor, Vince went to the dentist and had a smile brace fitted. The results are promising:

We locked out at 10:30, Rhiannon in the lock with us. It was amazing to see the dredger at work in the outer harbour. There didn't look to be enough water: Yachtmaster students, note the shapes flying near the bridge! Down to the outer Wrach and then a close reach up towards Newport in the light Easterly winds. A crisp, cold, February day, bright and sunny.

Allan helmed, and we passed the morning, deep in conversation about the pressing events of world politics. Allan was particularly pleased to learnt that the ban on Lee Byrne had been overturned and he would play against England later. We passed South of the English and Welsh buoy, Rhiannon turned for home but we pressed on across the channel, turning finally near the English grounds and riding the tide back to Cardiff. Sheila had made pea soup and Allan served it up with fresh bread. The wind died off and Allan contemplated the crusing chute. There were occasional stronger gusts, but some of these were pea soup related, so Allan prepared the chute.

Up she went, and we got an extra knot out of the failing wind. It was a fabulous day, and once again, I cannot recommend the pleasures of early season sailing enough. Thanks to Allan and Vince, and Sheila for the soup. As a postscript, I enjoyed a few pints of Guninness whilst watching the England v Wales game in the bar (the game, I did not enjoy). Louise would like to make it clear that I am not allowed to have pea soup with Guinness chasers ever again. EVER AGAIN.

Sorry Louise! I think it must have been the Guinness rather than the soup - Vince didn't seem to have that problem!
