Minehead

Bank holiday weekend Vince and I went over to Minehead. Achieved another little task that we had set ourselves some while ago, which was to go somewhere and actually put the bilge keeler to good use and dry out on a beach!

Here are some more of my rubbish videos and some photos.







We had a great time there. Highly recommend the pub on the harbour, The Ship Aground I think it was called. Fab fish & chips! There are some lovely pubs and a couple of nice looking restaurants as you walk from the harbour towards the town.

I was really surprised as the tide was going out and the boat was settling into the sand/mud as to how much buffeting there was from the swell, I had thought that the boat would just settle gracefully down. It was much the same with the rising tide later in the evening, although with the later fall, the swell having dimished, we never noticed her ground at all.

On our return we decided to go into Barry Harbour to wait for the tide because we decided that we would do something else that we have been meaning to do for a while - Alana's first proper night sail (even if only over a short disctance!) As we got in to Barry so the rain came down and we got thoroughly wet. With a number of hours to wait Vince got the dinghy out and we went ashore to the club, which unfortunately, being Sunday was closing for the afternoon, but we did have a swift drink and a chat with the club secretary. Eventually at 10 o'clock we left the harbour for our sail back. It was absolutely fab, probably one of the most enjoyable sails I've had. Wind was perfect and we just came back on the genoa. I found it surprisingly easy to pick up the leading light on the approach to Cardiff, but I did find it quite hard actually judging the lock entrance in the dark. However, that was all fine and we got back to the pontoon just after midnight, just after everyone had got chucked out of the club for the evening! Although we missed what seemed to be a great weekend at the club, we had a lovely time ourselves!

That's really interesting. I've seen Allan do it, with Cobby Girl as she was then, but it's good to see Alana using her keels too. We want to try drying out against a wall for teh first time this autumn.

Ah ha! Cracked it! Now I can see the pictures when logged in - I modified my profile! Had something ticked as "no" when it should have been "yes". Silly me.

In hindsight it's really obvious - in fact it's about the only reason why being logged on would make a difference!!! I'm gutted I didn't work that out!!
