Saturday 21st July is Push the Boat day.
Its a nationwide event organised by the RYA to encourage everyone with a boat to get on the water to wish our Olympic sailors support and success at the London Games. Everyone is welcome to participate and it is hoped that boats will be dressed with bunting and flags.
Due to dinghy regatta being held by CBYC on saturday the plan is to assemble off our trots area at about 3.30 pm [ look out for CYC rib ] then once the regatta has finished the competing boats will join the flotilla for a couple of laps around the bay including a quick trip into Mermaid Quay for Press and Publicity opportunities, once complete everyone is welcome to a BBQ being held at CBYC or join us up in the CYC bar.

Hi |All
Please be aware of the notice to mariners concerning that weekend
The rowing lanes have been installed for the home Nations rowing event taking place on Saturday 21st July.
There is an exclusion zone on the south side of the bay for the full lenght of 1.5 kilometres with a 5 knot speed limit in place for all of the bay while the rowing event is in place also there are restrictions for entering and leaving Mermaid Quay.from I believe 0900 until 1630

Agree sheila, it was fun last night doing safetyboat as the buoy drifted into them. not fun trying to retreive it.

The notice to Mariners states the whole area is restricted as from the 9th July until the 28th July
NO BOATS SHOULD ENTER THE ZONE
I KNOW DUE TO ME LAYING THE COURSE AND HAVE HAD A FEW NEAR MISSES WITH VESSELS SPEEDING THROUGH THE YELLOW PELLET BUOYS
thanks

Ray, I didn't even know about the notice to mariners being sent out till seeing on sunday evening after racing, I only went in quickly to retrieve it and got out of there. as was afraid for my prop, is there rope between the buoys on the line, and is anything happening sunday as we have a course running this weekend. Dinghy level 1

The long lines down the bay 1,5 km and the transverse lines across the bay 104 mtrs are all 0f 4mm stainless wire aprox 2.9 mtrs below the surface. The pellet buoys every 10 metres are attached using 3mm stainless wire, which can easily become detached if run over and can play havoc with any outboard motor besides the work it entails replacing them.
If all goes well the course will be recovered by Friday 28th July starting on Monday 23rd
Thanks
Ray

Ray, curious to know, when the lines are sunk again, do the buoys stay attached or do they have to all be removed and re-attached when next needed? How many buoys are there? Must be some job getting that all out.

Thanks Sheila
I am glad to say all the long lines have been removed plus the transverse lines are now on the bottom of the bay. Except for the starting line buoys that need to stay in place. The only buoys left out are the line of inner buoys (nearest the barrage) that all the transverse lines are attached to which are lit at night
Yes it has been hard graft for a one day event, especially trying to stop both leisure and commercial craft trying to cut across the course or not giving consideration of reducing speed when we are trying to lay 1500mtrs of wire along the bay lenght, but well worth it when you see the four nations of rowers taking part
I can only hope that in time craft on the bay will read the NTM that are published and adhere to them. I may suggest that any boat owner can request that they be added to the Notice To Mariners mailing list from the Harbour Authority office
Regards
Gofa
