I extended the Easter trip to include the May Day/Royal wedding weekend aswell, and returned on Tuesday or Wednesday (lost track of the days!) to a backlog of orders, email enquiries etc, so have only had time now to add my tuppence worth here! There was a bit of a mix-up over the time I intended to lock out so had to wait for Matt to arrive after everyone else had set sail for Swansea. We had a leisurely sail in the sunshine, but as everyone knows, there wasn't a lot of wind. We caught up with several CYC members at the Swansea Yacht Club but were too late for grub, as they were way behind with orders (some people reporting having to wait an hour or more for theirs) and the kitchen closed early. Had a welcome pint or 6 anyway! The hop round to Oxwich Bay was again virtually windless, but got there in the end! At the time we arrived several boats were moving from 3 cliffs Bay to the other side of Oxwich Bay where the fishing boats moor. Ardua was just in front and stopped this side of the buoys. I can remember thinking that I wouldn't choose to anchor there, but soon realised that that wasn't their plan when Duncan shouted across that he couldn't get the engine in gear, so we towed them through the fishing boats to the anchor spot. Duncan shouted across that it was fixed once we got to the other side and so we released them. Apparently an unknown crew member aboard Ardua had accidently kicked the gearbox disengage button on the throttle lever and it had stuck in, but had been persuaded to pop out again with copious amounts of WD40, brute force and lots of swearing! CYC boats at anchor in Oxwich Bay Xanadu anchored behind us. BABY'S FIRST FISHING ATTEMPTS!! I actually caught my first fish, after applying the advice given by Chris on his talk. Bringing it to the surface. Just to prove I landed it.... it seems at home on board Katy. Half asleep! Didn't really know what to do with it.... Had it been an ordinary fish of the slippery variety I would have gutted it - or at least tried! but this one was dry to the touch and felt like sand paper..... so I threw it back!. Just as well really as Allan later told me that skinning a dog fish requires a technique involving a pair of pliers!! Details of my extended trip to follow. Quite an eventful one, including being kidnapped by the Coast Guard!

Team Cassandra are only just back after extending the trip and heading west for another 2 weeks It was good to be part of the 'Armada' heading for Swansea. We made the right decision to keep close in round Lavernock to beat the tide, but ommitted to go inside sully as well and ground to a halt as several of you sneeked past on the inside. we'll know next time! We had a good sail down to Swansea. Managed to rig up a preventer which worked well and we followed the sun as much as anything, keeping outside the sandbanks. i don't think all the crew were concentrating very hard on their lookout duties though! On hearing the bedlam over the radio as the lockkeepers / harbour master tried to sort you all out, we hung back a bit before coming in to the marina. Saturday morning started with a visit to 'Roger's Tackle' who surprisingly didn't try to rip us novices off, told us not to bother with the expensive stuff and sold us some of the cheapest rigs and gave us some free bait samples. He also guarenteed we'd catch a dogfish ..which we, to our surprise, did. Sorry no photo - on Karen's camera i think. We headed for 3 cliffs in company with Howard and son onboard their new ketch: we caught the dogfish on a handline without trying - we were too busy watching people getting very wet trying to get to the beach and back in dinghies - thanks for the entertainment! Especially to Mike and team on Xanadu for 'pretending' to drift rapidly out to sea whilst trying frantically to start the outboard. I'd just decided we'd better up anchor and give chase and it started. Later we motored over to join the rest of you at Oxwich and when we got up at 'sensible' o'clock, most of you early birds had already gone!

Hi everyone we have finally worked out how to use forum. Had a great sail down to Swansea engine went of at the wrack and got the genny out. Noticed that Huw went inside Sully so we followed ,the depth got to 3.2 so still had plenty of water. Just of Barry we rolled the genny up and flew the spinny managed to sail rigth to swansea fairway what a spiffing good sail. Joined everyone later in Swansea yc. Next day headed for 3 cliffs ,wind picked up so we went over to Oxwich Bay got the kayak out and took Tilly ashore she loved it . On the way back we were invited onto Alana for pimms and cucumber sarnies ( beer gin and chille lovely it was too). Sarah and I had the 10 days off so we headed west with Chausey and Sanabell fair play Alan kicked our butt took the route inside the bay and beat us in to Tenby by 2 or 3hours. Went to far out and ended up motor sailing to get backinshore Sanabell fouled there prop but got back ok and came along side us on the visitor moorings at Tenby. Headed for the Y.C. later had more beer then had an eventfull trip back to boat which has been covered elsewhere. Next day of to Milford good wind no dramas apart from Sarah tried to hold onto the spinny guy and suffured rope burns but making a cuppa for me took her mind of it. About 4 miles of the Haven wind came round on the nose about a 6 we reefed down and snuck in along St Annes Head and anchored at Wattwick Bay, later we went round to Dale but still blowing a hooly! so went back round corner to Castlebeach Bay and what a superb place that was. Went ashore and had a walk to Dale ended up in the Y.C. Rvnt James on the pump the first one didnt touch the side. Sarah was outside with Tilly so i took her out some crisps and a coke to share the crisps with Tilly. Had a comfortable night ,decided to head for skomer not much wind, went through Jack Sound with the tide fairplay runs quiker than the Ranie, saw loads of Puffins ,Seals and other birds. Motor sailed round the Island then went into south beach and chilled for awhile took some pics then headed back for Castle beach. Later that evening we noticed Moontide and Preceptor heading for Dale so we slipped anchor joined them for spag boll and then spent that night in Millford marina more beer. Next day headed up river stopped at the Jolly Sailor for some beer , Sarahs daughter and grand children joined us aswell who live localy, then headed back to Castlebeach. All 3 boats headed for Solva through the Sound and beat our way to Solva, where we all took the ground. Met the harbour master in Solva boat club to sort things out had a good laugh, helpfull chap reminded me of a charactor out of Dc Martin. Met the other guys, more beer oh yeah and i treated Sarah to fish and chips. Time to head back, on the nose most of the time ,blowing hard when we left Tenby and even more from Swansea but had the tide with us on both occasions and got home shakin but not stirred. Wr had a fatastic time fantasic weather and even more fantastic company along the way Martyn Sarah and Tilly

Welcome to the forum. Good to see you here. We found the harbourmaster at Solva a really good guy as well, last year. I'll update you on the chart when I get a chance.

hi everyone; we are coming over next Sunday to help in any way with the regatta that we can; we would have come for the whole weekend but I have talked myself into facepainting at the Bath and West Show from Wednesday till Saturday, (insanity prevails!) Happy to help Rowena cook lots of burgers if she needs me to; or muck in as necessary. Look forward to seeing you all. Sadly we wont make the Lydney rally as my new exalted job role means I ahve to be in London that weekend for a big event, so I will try to look important.
