Paschal, I didn't know you were back from Ireland, nor did I realise you were over at the Barrage! Happy New Year to you!

It has come to my attention that someone was flying a PINK flag from my boat in my absence. Can someone please tell me this is not true?

Hi everyone. I've moved this post to the sailing chat section now, as it seems to be a chat about the cruise rather than an announcement. There should be a way to split a thread, for moderation, but it is not available yet. It also makes me, as Administrator, appear big and powerful, which is nice.

Who would do such a thing? That's not Ishtar is it? I hope that has been 'photoshopped' on. I don't understand what the world is coming to. A bloke goes to watch a game of rugby (where the Ospreys beat the Cardiff Blues 26-0 in a VERY onesided game) and whilst he is out, a gang of girls nick his boat and put a pink flag up on it. Out of order I say. Seriously, I think the ladies section is working wonders. I know Louise is benefitting hugely from being away from me (that doesn't sound right ). More I say. Pity I missed it. It looks really good. Cheers to Huw for organising again, happy new year and hopefully this is the start of a great sailing season. M.

Just a thought, I know that Paschall is without a boat at the moment, has anyone wondered whether he'd like to join the ladies section?

A few disconnected jottings:-
- The ghost yacht looks like Buff. He lost his engine near Outer Wrach on the way back. Thanks to Peter, Karen & Beth for securing him safely alongside for a tow into the lock. Luckily, he got started again just outside.
- Don't feel too bad about the pink flag, Martin. Just checked flag etiquette; if you're looking for a crumb of comfort, I think it should have been off the port spreader not starboard.
- Have you seen the number of views this thread has generated? Phew.

Your forecast sounds like it could be quite nice. Could you arrange for sun and temperature up into the mid to high teens minimum too? Huw, I must congratulate you on organising the sun for us. Didn't do too well on the temperature bit, or the wind really, but what great weather to kick off the year. I have just about thawed out now! Sheila

On New Years day I went sailing in the bay with tony and ross on the Coresande, and I enjoyed it , Learnt how to tack a proper cutter, and sail as well so bit of experience lol, and the car decided to break down on the way home due to cam belt failure which ruined a good day

s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/Chausey/?action=view¤t=AVI_0001.flvI hope the above works as it shows the CYC fleet looking great on the first cruise of the year. The first yacht is Heron from Portishead. Last year we had two boats out for the first cruise, this year 9 or 10. Thanks to all that turned up and I hope this means more people will join us on future trips this year. Allan

Thanks to all who turned up on New Years Day, it was great to see such a good turnout. Thanks also to 'Uncle Steve' for taking Josh, Matthew and myself out on Coracle. We had a superb sail despite the light winds, and decided to round Steep Holm as well as Flat Holm, though the late afternoon wind was no match from the tide and this forced us to resort to using the engine to get back.

Just a thought, which boats were out there? Ishtar, Alana, Barebones, Coracle, "The ghost boat" not sure of the name? Enigma, A Centaur, possibly Andrea? Which other boats were there? Allan

I don't think Andrea came out. Shoshana was there (or at least came through the lock, as did Heron but I think that one went back to Portishead), there was also Galipette (came to the BBQ at Jacksons Bay), both CBYC boats. And Chausey of course. Oh, and Moontide I think! We had had a bit of a count while out on Ishtar and we think there about 10 boats in all, so that just about does it I think. Sheila

Ishtar Alana Coracle Chausey Enigma Shosanna Rose Moontide Buff (the ghost boat - i think) Barebones (CBYC) Gallepette (CBYC) - had to take second lock with Vince.
As Allan has already said 10 boats is a big improvement on the 2 that came out last year.

Just a thought, I know that Paschall is without a boat at the moment, has anyone wondered whether he'd like to join the ladies section? ;D Absolutely! Girls have FUN, and, I was looking for an opportunity to wear that pink frock of mine - it would go well with the pink flag! But, how embarassing to *own* a boat with a pink flag - do you have a pink Ospreys shirt as well? ;D

Pink is fun! If I were to ever have my own boat it would be pink with pink sailsto go with some of the lovely pink sunsets we have from time to time! Also, girls have lots of lovely goodies to eat on board, home made soups and welsh cakes and lots of lovely things like that! Can't wait to see you in your pink frock Paschall. But remember, no high heels on board! S

I noticed in the top picture that Elaine is holding the tiller. She seems used to just using two fingers to hold it. When Louise holds it, she uses her entire hand, or, sometimes, she has to use two hands. Should we read anything into that?

Although I am sure I know what you are getting at, as this is a sailing club forum, we all know what it is about. It seems to me that whoever trims the sails when Louise is sailing is not as good at getting the boat balanced as the girls were on new years day. maybe the girls will offer sailing lessons? Allan

Look, there's a slim possibility that these ladies did manage to fluke a decent sail trim - law of averages says they must do it sometime. The other possibility is that they were receiving outside help. I hear tell of a chubby Irish lady in a pink dress on the barrage with a radio, barking instructions.
Is it possible that this Irish person has some advanced knowledge of the Bermudian sloop rig that he is imparting to our lovelies?

While (nothing_else_to_do==FALSE){ 1) I only bring my VHF onto the barrage for my 'dark-side' activities, which, of course, includes barking at the Ladeez 2) it's a frock, not a dress - jeez! I go to all that trouble, and he doesn't even notice! 3) I have tried to know as little as possible except the name of a leg-of-mutton sail configuration, despite V's best efforts to get me to haul two, two I tells ya, lines 4) I prefer a well-tested rig, ca. 2000 years will do, such as a fully-battened Chinese lug-sail, preferably with a low-aspect ratio, possibly an 8% camber, definitely on a boat, and boat on that stuff, eh, water! 6) Cider should always come in bottles 7) Bottles should always come to me if(now_very_thirsty==TRUE) break; } I hope this clears up the matter; if not, Ladeez, puhleez take this as a challenge to thrash the boys, again, at sailing, balanced or otherwise!
