Steve,
The lads are in Padstow, leaving tomorrow. Happy but wet. We've been talking about a low pressure that looks like it rules out crossing Biscay until next weekend. Currently the plan is to head out tomorrow for Camaret. Depending on what the weather looks like after that, it may be a few days in France, or try and cross Biscay before the blow. I'll try and post if I get any more info.

Hi Martin, Nice to hear from you. Hope your building work is going well.
Thanks for the update. I hope the weather holds to enable the lads to get a number of miles under their belts Look forward to any update - fingers crossed for the lads Cheers

Just spoke to Allan. They left later than expected this morning, but are on their way for Land's end, channel crossing for Camaret. weather is benign. We will monitor the Biscay situation from there. There may be a problem with the tracker updates for position. Allan is loking at it.
Hiya Steve. We were hoping to finish the house and catch a bit of sailibg this year, but time got away from us. I have actually stood on Ishtar this year, which is more than I did last year......
Edit - I see the tracker is working again now.

Cheers Martin, Good to hear that they are on the move. Hopefully the high pressure will push up to assist them.
I've been the same this year. Hoping to go West but due to family circumstances all that went west was my plans. Shame cos Coracle is all in good shape with no outstanding jobs. Never mind - there's always next year.

They crossed the channel last night and have just tacked off Ushant, heading for Camaret. Looks like they may be there for some time.......

I just spoke with Allan. They left this morning, trying to get a bit further East to wait out the low. It was worse than they thought, so they have returned to Camaret. They have no intention of battling Biscay in the weather forecast, so will wait it out.

OK, they're on their way again. Gave them some fair weather forecasts last night. The Low has passed and they face lighter winds, as high pressure feeds in over Biscay. Hopefully they will cross the Bay before the next low arrives.

They passed Finisterre early this morning. The forecast is for light, variable winds until about Sunday, then it sets more Southerly. I asked Allan for an update, for those following on the forum. Here is his reply (Satphone, so every character is expensive.....) 'Update, too much motoring, Sequel is still a happy if slightly smelly ship. Vince's birthday cake went down very well. Will stop next when fuel is needed. ' I will try and find out where(who?) the smell is coming from for the next update. I feel that I could be partly responsible as I gave them a curry Pot Noodle each the day before they left........

Happy Bithday Vince & Well done to the Three some .The Tracker is working brilliant keeping us all updated as to what progress they are making. Good to see they have completed the worst part of the North Atlantic part of the trip - albeit that they are a bit smelly.

When I spoke to Vince on the phone yesterday afternoon he reported that the crossing of the Bay of Biscay has been pretty good, with smooth flat sea most of the time except for a period on Tuesday when the wind got up to 20knots+ and the sea got rough. Other than that it was uneventful. They are making the most of the weather/wind and running straight down now to Cape St Vincent and round the corner (or at least that is the plan). Yesterday afternoon they were motoring - lack of wind! It's nice that people are taking such an interest. An yes, Steve, Vince did say that when they make a stop there is some laundry to be done, but there is a lot to be said for baby wipes!

I should say that the forecast I sent this morning gives South and SouthEasterlies for a week soon. Just perfect for turning the corner for Gib!

I lost two fingers with Frostbite, Steve. remember Vince burped and it froze?
Anyway, The lads are planning on a flying visit to Cascais this morning for fuel and to desmell, I think. Louise and I were there two years ago, nearly to the day. Loved the place, although we were stuck for a few days. Forecast foul winds for Gibraltar and the BBC weather forecast is giving stormy conditions off Southern France with 'The Mistral'. 60-70 knots possible according to the beeb, so we will have to keep an eye on that in the coming weeks.

I am sat outside the bar in Cascais marina with two other fragrant chaps. One more beer and we will be off towards Gibraltar. The tracker will be on at every watch change. Allan

I was wondering how it is that the plot is made regularly every four hours. Now I know.

Many members are following your progress. It is quite amazing how far you have travelled already.
There should be scope in the future for a talk on a Thursday night by The Fiddlers Three.
Good Luck for the rest of your trip. Brian King,Comm..

I sent them the latest weather earlier today. Easterlies until Monday, getting up to over 20 knots, on the nose.
Just heard from Allan that they are heading into Cadiz to wait out the foul wind.
I'd love a few days in Cadiz. It's where the Spanish fleet sailed from for Trafalgar, and I bet there is a huge amount of maritime history there.

I'd love a few days in Cadiz. It's where the Spanish fleet sailed from for Trafalgar, and I bet there is a huge amount of maritime history there. As you can see from the tracker they didn't go in to Cadiz but to a place just north west of there called Chipiano. Vince has asked me to post a fuller account of there trip which I will do in due course, when I have time, and when I get my lap top back which is being debugged. Hence why I'm writing this in Viv's name as I can't remember my own password! From the map I think Jerez de la Frontera is nearer than Cadiz. That is a lovely place. Vince and I once spent a wonderful couple of days there, visiting the sherry bodegas and staying in a lovely hotel for next to nothing. Sheila

OK, question for all those trainee day skippers and yachtmasters out there. You are in Gibralter. You have 1900 miles to travel in an Easterly direction. When would you leave? Well, I wouldn't leave until I'd been to Marks & Sparks! Sheila

Looks like Chill time to me. Time to rehydrate - catch up on their sleep - replenish their groceries - Check Sequel over and take in the sights of Chipiano. Hopefully the weather will improve over the weekend and they will be off again. My only worry is - Has Chipiano enough Carling in stock for the three of them for that length of time.

Just checked they are now in Cadiz. Obviously Chipiano didnt have enough Carling. Haha!!! But it looks a better bolt hole for a bit of shelter.

Just spoke with Allan on Skype. They are waiting for the change in wind, and will then try and creep along to Gibralter. They will then watch the weather, and intend to sit tight and let the strong winds pass, before heading out into the Med proper. They will probably follow a more Northerly route, avoiding the African coast.

Gibraltar Here they Come. What a difference with the weather in your favour. Mentally that must be a big boost and a great acheivment - especially with the conditions they have had from the outset Well done Lads

Just a short hop last night. They are now safely in port at Gib. There is a short duration blow coming through tonight, up to 40 knots forecast at 3am, so they will wait that out. Allan said he'll call me later, so I'll update if he does. M.
