This year we were have finally managed to leave the Bristol Channel.
After the repair of the tractor we were able to get in the water and make a 11.30 lock out last Saturday. With the wind directly from the channel we decided to sail direct to Watchet to be in a good position to catch the early morning tide to Lundy.
We had a good sail with the wind up to 22kn.
It is good to note that the mud is being systematically removed with the first
Pontoon area now free of mud.
On Sunday we left at 6:30 and headed for Lundy. We had no wind until 13:00 when we managed to raise the cruising chute.
We arrived at ,Lundy at 3pm. Went to try to see the puffins by foot at Jenny's cove.
After a good dinner at the pub we returned to Ardua which was anchored near to Rat island.
On Monday we went by boat to Jenny's cove and managed to see many puffins. The wind on that side of the island was high.
At 8am we set sail towards Padstowe. We had an excelent
Sail with 18kn to start with near Lundy. After we were clear of its effect on the wind we encountered a steady 10 to 14kn and were able to use the crushing chute rigged as a spinnica with an apparent wind angle of around 140 deg from 9:00 to 15:00 after which the wind picked up and we used main and genoa.
We arrived at Padstow at 16:30 to find the harbour entrance being lowered.
En route we were joined by a dolphins. I will post punctures when we have a better connection.
The whether was excellent and much sun cream was required.
We left Padstowe the next morning at 5:15 with no wind en route for Falmouth.
We motered the entire route. WhEn there was wind it was directly on the nose. It even travelled around the headlands.
We took the inner passage around Lands End where we had a little assistance from the wind. If I take that route again I would keep outside cape Cornwall as we had about 2.5 kn of tide against us. The same could be said of the lizard as the inner passage whilst safe was rough.
We arrived in Falmouth Marina at 20:42. The engine was on for 16.4 hrs! However the sun shone all day and we have used more sun cream so far than we did all of lat year.
We will stay in Falmoth for a few days before we decide our next port of call.
